The other day I had an e mail from one of the UK based firms, offering the TomTom GO 720 Manufacturer Refurbished units at a good price.
Since I am looking to get either a 520 or 720 for use in our delivery van. UK use only but with a lot of poi's. Has anyone purchased one of these rebuilt units if so any problems.
Or would it be better to get a new 520 which are still on sale.
It needs to be the x20 range as I have the holder built into the van and it will not take the x30 range.

What makes you think that a x30 won't fit a x20 mount? AFAIK, the Tomotom mounts are the same, and I know that the Brodit mounts are the same for both series.

There was a similar conversation recently:

is the price reasonable?
what warranty are you getting?
what version of maps are supplied with the device?

Remember that the NEW device would come with LMG and the maps may be £60ish to upgrade a refurbished unit.

Other than those issues, a refurbished unit should be at least as good as a new one functionally because faulty components should have been replaced (and some non-faulty ones may also have been replaced) and the unit is likely to have undergone additional, thorough testing.

139.99
12 months
yes good point about the maps didn't think about that.
Best to stick with a new 520 at 169.99

The holder is a Carcomm Navigation Cradle for the x20 the one they have now stopped making and replaced with a x20/x30 cradle

Thanks for advise

I got a 720 out here in the states and so far its been faultless in use every day.
I have had it for just short of a month and intend using the LMG in the next day or 2.
Just because its a refurb, doesn't mean it don't have the LMG.

They are sold as manufactures refurb and as such carry the LMG the same.

When I returned my old Go300 for repair, they ended up replacing it with a refurb unit.
It was totally indistinguishable from a new one (except for the little "R" in the part number). Even the screen looked brand new under the protective film.

For the record,

I just used my LMG for my recertified tt720.

Had to go through the process of emailing my invoice etc, but they processed it all ok and i know have the v720 map.

Additionally i had to speak to 2 operators during the process and i asked them both about the next release. They both said it would be probably the end of the year!

I bourght a refurbished Tomtom 910 from Total PDA £140. Arrived very quickly, looks like new all seals still on. Downside maps are nearly 3 years old. As it was refurbished as new by Tomtom, tried to get updated maps from Total PDA and Tomtom, but they told me maps are not part of a as new refurbished unit, Tomtom told me in a e-mail it carries a 2 year warranty although PDA paper work gives it 12 months. Sent 2 e-mails to Total PDA to try and buy a spare mount, They did not reply. It could cost me over £100 extra if I get new maps.

This is interesting as in Andys case, he sent his unit back for repair and gets a replacement unit. Do they replace it with maps of equal version or better?
If in the case of PDA they are 3 years old i wonder what maps were on them when these were refurbed? and indeed where are those maps now.
I suppose when they are refurbed they are reset to zero as such and are given the maps equal to what they had when sold new. If that unit was received by them with later maps on i just wonder where these maps end up, if not the same, when the unit is reintroduced to the market.

If I remember rightly (it was a long time ago now) they asked for me to send back the device, but NOT the SD card.
At that time any ORIGINAL TomTom-supplied SD card would work in any machine, so I just continued exactly where I left off when the replacement machine arrived.
Obviously on new models with no SD slot, it all gets a bit trickier.....
