Hi everyone,

Please can some one advise me where I can buy the latest Tom Tom maps from rather than downloading them from Tom Tom.

They will be for a Tom Tom 300 go.

thanks for reading

You have no option other than downloading the new maps when purchased via the TomTom Home software on your PC. If you don't have a high speed internet connection you might be able to ask a relative or friend if they will let you use their PC - Mike

Hi Mike,

The original maps are on Tom Tom SD card that came with the Tom Tom and not downloaded.

I can probably down load them if necessary from Tom Tom but thought they might be cheaper from an online store.

If I do down load them from Tom Tom will they need a blank SD card ?

thanks

Malc

Samsung, for a while now, the only way to upgrade the map has been via download. As this is done via a specific login to a specific device, it's to get around piracy problems that TomTom had more of before.

I would advise making a complete backup using Windows Explorer (see FAQ item 1) before doing any changes. With the price of SD cards nowadays, it would be better to use a new one if you can as the old one will still work as a backup.

You would be best advised to purchase a new card of around 2GB in size, this way you can add any of the map options to your device (within reason). SD cards are cheap these days, a decent 2GB card shouldn't set you back any more than £15 and it leaves the original card intact should you ever need to recover the device from a disaster.
The original card will be very hard pushed to accept the newer applications and the newer maps, it is simply too small.

Purchase the new card, copy the entire contents of the old card to the PC using Windows Explorer, FAQ #8 explains how to do this from This Page.

Install the latest version of TomTom Home to the PC which can be obtained from Here, purchase your map and install it to the device.

If you have the old map and the new map on the new SD card don't forget to update the POI files and speed camera settings for the new map folder, also you will need to go to change preferences/ Manage Maps/ Switch Maps and select the new map in order for the device to use it.

When the new map is selected on the device configure your POI warnings as these are specific to the map file selected - Mke

I tried this with my TT500. Aldi sell a 2gb card for £9.99. After transferring all the date from the orignal SD card to the new one the TT refused to recognise it and froze on me.

Dunno if it was the card or something I did? haven't tried since

Have a look at FAQ #8 for details on transferring data to a new memory card, click Here, if it doesn't work after following that it is probably the new cards read speed, if it is too slow (which cheaper cards often are) the device will reject the card and refuse to boot up - Mike
