I see that there is a volume control setting but in the 6 weeks since I got my Satmap it has been completely silent. I didnt know it was meant to make a sound

The volume control is set to 70% and Beep alert count to three bleeps

Can someone explain what these are meant to do?

If you listen very carefully as you approach waypoints, there is a very faint high pitch beep that lasts about 1 second. It is VERY faint and you may have to hold the Satmap to your ear to hear it. Mine is set at 100% and is barely audible.

Further to my last post, the unit beeps as you approach waypoints, POI's, Go To Points or Routes. It also beeps when a map card is inserted.

Audio Playback Volume
To quote user manual:
"This is a volume control when using the audio jack. This function relates to audiovisual Points Of Interest which will be available from Satmap, Summer 2008"

Presumably if you have your headphones plugged in it will tell you all about the summit of Snowdon as you approach. Mmmm
