I've just had to buy a replacement for my 910 which replaced my old classic.
Having had tomtoms for many, many years I'd just like to share my experience with my brand new £99 (Currys) Tomtom one V3.
Although it doesnt have many features that the 910 did, I never bl**dy used them anyway ! The speaker was err, rubbish, so playing music , bluetooth, spoken road names, etc etc etc were all superfluous. Yeah I believed the hype too !
Cutting to the chase, this little guy is actually awesome ! I only need it to use in the UK, its *SO* fast at acquiring GPS signal (even when well indoors ( I can get 9 satellites in my lounge !!))
The version 8 software seems very stable and mapshare etc are working brill via home.
I dont bother with the GPS in my Nokia N95 - don't even go there - its not worth it !!!! ( Even with the bluetooth external sirfstar 3 chipset jobbie)
I have however noticed one thing that someone might be able to help me with. On loading the pocketgps database (consolidated) a speed camera is missing although its on the tomtom database ? Surely their one cant be more up to date but it is.
If some bright soul wants to enter it in, the location is in Witney, Oxon on Oxford Hill at N51.78606 W1.46983. Its been there for years and is a normal yellow 30 mph jobbie.
So to summise, if you want a basic A-B cheap, quality, UK only (with a good speaker) Satnav then I cant recommend this entry level tomtom enough !
12/10 Rating (especially for the Noobs !)

That's weird ? Is it the data file or the Tomtom 3 or V8 or even the consolidated file (I always used to use the individual files only) ?
Very strange as it has almost every other camera I've searched for ?

It should have EVERY camera you've searched for....
Got any more to check?
As for #2386 - what release of the d.base are you using? And have you tried a new download? |

I've just downloaded all three versions of the database, and the camera is present in them all, as it should be as they all use the same data.
How are you checking for the camera? _________________ Anita

I'm just planning a route from home to Witney town centre and it deffo doesnt come up but the tomtom one does.
The file is dated Jan 08 so I'm well confused.
I might try adding the individual files on their own and see if its there then.

I know nothing about the 910 but, assuming it's similar to the x20 series, are you sure you've got map detail preferences set to show the appropriate category?
Is it included in the list displayed if you navigate to the appropriate POI category?
As Andy_P suggested, try downloading again in case the file has become corrupted. _________________ Anita

Sorry, I've only just noticed this.
When did you download the database? Could you have had an old version on your pc that you installed by mistake? Definitely download it again! _________________ Anita

From the camera ID number it would look like an old established camera, it won't matter which download you use as they all come from the same single master database, so if it occurs in one data set it will appear in every other one available.
Could it be you were zoomed too far out to see the camera? - on the TomTom map you need to be zoomed in below a certain level for the POI files to show up - Mike |

OK, I've gone back to the previous months consolidated files dated Dec 18th 2007 and the same camera is indeed there now.
I can only conclude that the Jan 08 consolidated files have this camera missing.
What is the date of the files you guys are using ?

The latest, of course. I wouldn't dream of using anything else! That's 28th June currently, mid-June when I checked the camera you said was missing.
Why are you using such an out-of-date database? _________________ Anita

To give you an idea of just HOW out of date yours is now...
I've just had a quick count up and in the NINE releases since the one on January the 9th, there have been 4344 new cameras and mobile positions added to the UK database! |

I think the reason could be the version of the database you are using.
if you are from around the Witney area, you will know that the camera on Oxford hill was removed for maintenance a while ago.It was out of action for at least a month or 2
Perhaps the camera was removed from the database for that reason and then readded when it appeared again ????
Just a thought |
