I stumbled over this earlier today while looking at some German Forums http://www.gns-gmbh.com/index.php?id=78&L=1 the interesting device on the website is the GNS TrafficBoxplus FM9BT-Y

It claims that any mobile or PND with bluetooth can receive the TMC signal via this device which is hard wired into the car aerial and placed out of site.

Could this be the end of the unsightly cables all over the dashboard. All we need now is a way to power GPS units without the cable ;) Laughing Out Loud

Thanks for the heads-up! One thing I don't understand, however (and perhaps I'm overlooking something very obvious here), is how it can work with existing ("dedicated") PNDs which surely won't be set up to expect TMC instructions via a BlueTooth signal? For example your Navigon 8110 presumably will only accept instructions via its power socket as that is how the device has been designed...?

(Ironically my four-year-old PDA-based Navigon MobileNavigator software actually *can* accept a TMC feed via BlueTooth as that was exactly how Navigon's own TMC receiver relayed data to the PDA.)

Cheers,

Dave

Had thought the same thing myself and if the bluetooth is being used to get TMC information then wouldn't that effect the handsfree function.

I'm not sure of the limitations of bluetooth but I'm not convinced it would be able to do both at the same time?

It was just something that I came across, but like you I'm not sure if / how it would work without some kind of software on the PND to use it.

Unless the bluetooth simply sees it as a 'data' signal like GPRS, but even then the software would need to know how to process the information
