I bought a Navman S80 from Halfords yesterday and I am having the following problem.

I have installed Navdesk 2008 from the DVD I got in the box, and downloaded the SP2 update. Every time I try to install it, I get the following error :

---------------------------
Navman NavDesk 2008 - InstallShield Wizard
---------------------------
This service pack requires NavDesk to be already installed. Please install the software and try installing this service pack afterwards.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I have already installed the software so I can only conclude that either this SP does not apply to the S80 (it does in fact not mention the S80), there is something wrong with the SP or something it doesn't like about Windows Vista.

Any ideas?

Apparently Navman were listening somehow. The download page has been updated to say that SP2 is NOT for the S80.

Still, I am thinking of taking this back and getting a refund. The handsfree doesn't work with my Samsung G600, and the TMC does not appear to work either.

The hands free is the reason I bought it.

There is a Service Pack (May 25th 2008) especially for the S80 now at http://www.navman.com/Navman/Templates/standardcontent____4407.aspx

My S90i had no problems connecting to a Samsung G600

Well the S80 did not allow me to pickup the call.

Anyway, I took it back to Halfords paid a bit more and got a TomTom 520T instead. More features and it works with my phone.

It's a bit of a shame really. I liked the S80.

Just bought an S80 today to replace my ageing (in satnav terms) iCN530.

Already being aware of the S80 postcode issue, and the fix available from the Navman website, my first job was to download and install the upgrade.

Unfortunately it simply doesn't work with Windows Vista. I tried it on two different machines (one Ultimate, one Home Premium). In normal mode the upgrade fails to detect the S80 - despite NavDesk and Windows Explorer recognising it, while in 'Run as Administrator' it will detect the S80 and appear to do the upgrade (very quickly) but on restarting the S80 there is still the postcode issue.

I finally resorted to trying the upgrade on my old Windows XP laptop where it worked perfectly - copying all the necessary files and when rebooted the S80 now recognises full UK postcodes.

On the subject of phone compatibility, my Nokia 6500 works fine even though it is not listed as doing so on the Navman website.

Guess its a Vista settings issue (administrator isn't always what it seems!) rather than NavDesk as it works fine on mine, upgrades and all

...except it is in fact a 6300 - sorry to have misled anyone (particularly those with a 6500!)

I contacted Navman over the Vista problem. The fix is very easy! You will overwrite a couple of folders and files. It works fine. See:

To install the service pack using MS vista you will have to install the service pack manually. Please do the following:

Download the service pack and extract the files/Copy the extracted service pack EXCLUDING the GO.bat file and paste it into the Navman folder on the S80.

Hello all.

I bought an S80 from Halfords too, and have been very happy with it. That was 2 months ago and I have yet to be able to run Navdesk 2008!

I installed the DVD on 2 separate PCs (running WinXP on Service packs 2 and 3). Nothing. I tried running the prog in safe mode; again nothing. I spoke with Navman customer services who were VERY good, but sent me a new DVD. I repeated the above steps, all to no avail.

I have disabled everything I can think of which could be clashing with the prog. I've had a computer-able mate round who has drawn a blank too. Every time I start the prog I get a Windows pop-up which says:

"Navdesk 2008 has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

No info, no choice to error report, no .log file, no nothing!

Please help a newbie in need!

Thanks in advance.

Z.

For me reinstalling the microsoft.net framework worked.

Downloaded a new version from the net.
