Just new to the Satmap. But from my first days use it seems to not pick up routes if a waypoint is missed. Is this normal? In order to stop you climbing over fences to get to that misplaced waypoint I thought it would just carry on when you next hit a waypoint on the route.

Anyone else has this experience?

Sorry Robert, but I don't understand your query. Can you explain what you mean by: "pick up routes if a waypoint is missed"?

First day with unit, so maybe finger / lack of manual trouble.

However when I started a route I missed the first waypoint. Now matter how close I got to the other waypoints the A10 wanted me to go back to the start.

I would have thought it would just pick up the route from the most recent waypoint passed?

How so?

I think we're on different wavelengths here. I'm guessing, but have you (a) activated a pre-plotted route; (b) "viewed" it; and (c) hit "Start"? If so, all this does is show you the point on the map at which the route starts. As you travel, this won't change i.e. the map view won't scroll with you; you'll just walk off the map. To see where you are, you need to be in "GPS map" view, when the map scrolls automatically with your position, but if you wander away from the "activated" route, the unit does nothing; you are supposed simply to watch where you're going on the map. Unlike a Garmin with route navigation, you don't get any prompts to indicate that you're digressing from the chosen route. Does this make sense or have I completely misunderstood what you're saying?

I believe that the A10 does show what it assumes is the next waypoint of the active route (if you take a shortcut it will pick up the nearest waypoint) and shows it in blue (not to be confused with the blue dot that shows - you are here).

The alternative to the compass will also point to what it thinks is the next waypoint and give you a distance but I find the direction a bit variable at the speed I walk at!

Does that help?

Tried again today and it seems to be working better. Some of my problems I think were having the map zoomed in too much while in GPS view.

Does the zoom level define the size of the area used to select waypoints in range I wonder?

Anyone know what the algorythm used is like? Does it just use proximity? Or does it look for the next one on the route? What happens if routes crosses itself?

Just getting used to my unit, so these questions may answer themselves as I use it more.
