Journey from Brunton Lane Newcastle NE3 2 to Eastgate Hexham Ne46 directs you onto main Newcastle Carlisle road A69 dual carriageway which
is what I would expect.
But, then it directs you away from A69 and onto B6318 which in turn
joins A68 which in turn takes you back onto A69 Laughing Laughing
All my setting on TTN3 are set at default values but this route
just seems mad..............
I bought TTN3 to save me time and NOT take me silly detours.
Seems not just missing roads but daft routing Confused

Cheers

It certainly does! I just tried a few other routes e.g. Stannigton (near Morpeth) to Carlisle and it does the same thing. In particular it seems odd that it routes you through the small town of Heddon-on-the-Wall. I've just done some measurements on Autoroute and the B road route seems to add .9 miles to the route.

I've used this route regularly over the last 6 months or so and I know that TT2 was quite happy with the A69 (although it had a few miles missing further west around Haltwhistle).

Maybe an email to TomTom support would be in order.

I can't check this at the moment but You may want to look at the map as this section of the road maybe "un known" which tomtom will then avoid like the plague as (I guess) it will not know what standard of road or track it is and ignore it.

I have come up against something similar with a new bypass where the middle 300 yards is unkown and you get routed off through an industrial estate and back onto the bypass at the next roundabout where the road is correctly listed once more.....

I guess you just learn to ignore it where you know the way or signs point in an obvious direction - gps really comes into its own for the last few miles through towns - probably best to flag this up as a map error.

Out of curiosity I tried this with Navman SmartSTv2 and it also routes away from the A69... but not in the same place!

It routes you off the A69, through Ovington then back up the B6309 and back onto the A69 at the next junction?

No, it's not "unknown" and it definitely wasn't a problem with TT2.

I think TT are having problems, I emailed them nearly a week ago as since upgrading to TTN3 I'm now sent down dirt tracks, deep fords (14in sadly I measured the water mark on my 4x4) and on bridleways.

Still waiting for the answer

Yes I do have a 4x4 but this does help when towing a caravan

Out of interest reversed the route and no probs, I was directed along the
A69.
So, perhaps there is a break in road routing alignment when travelling
west but dual carriageway travelling east in OK.
That being the case would also suggest that all mapping data was renewed
rather than add/delete change.............interesting.....

Cheers

But no problems with the reverse route! Can you do me a favour and try to route from Land's End to John O'Groats, then the reverse trip, please? I'd be interested if a TTN3 user could do this, too, please.

Steve,

Did you go to the very end of Land's End, i.e. the roundabout right at the end where the Land's End Hotel is?

I've been a user of TT for over a year now. My route to work has changed since the launch of TT3 apparently. That I suppose I can live with, but there is something more aggravating.
I travel from Southport to Stockport and back, which logically would take you down the M60. However the M60 is a nightmare so avoiding it saves me time.
With TT2 I would ask to avoid the M60 once I was on the M6, I would be routed further down the M6 and down the M56 off at Jcn 6, good route. Now I issue the avoid M60 command and I get routed further down the M6 as normal. However once on the M56 TT3 wants to put be back on the M60! I have to reissue a command issued minutes earlier.

Is it a fairly simple job to uninstall TT3 and reinstall TT2 and the old maps?

I have routed from LE to JoG, what exactly do you need from this?

Distance = 822.8 miles

Barry320SLK,
Yes it's no big deal to re-install TTN2 (if I can do it anyone can!). I just deleted all the TomTom files from both the Ipaq and the SD card and installed TTN2. When you get to the end of the installation and the TTN2 CD asks you if you want to register it just ignore that bit - since you have activated it already on the same device then no problem. All the other stuff you may have on there like postcodes and cameras etc just leave it will all work fine - at least it did for me. I don't know if you can just reinstall TTN2 over TTN3 without deleting all first - try that it will certainly be quicker. I assumed you couldn't so I cleared it all out first, but I could be wrong about that.

Because although I can do LE to JO'G, I can't do JO'G to LE! I wondered if it was a Navman thing or a TeleAtlas thing, that's all.

Tim,

With TT you can just input the town and do a carriage return and it calculates from the centre of the town. Give or take a couple of miles it was still one end of the country to the other

From the un-named roads at Long 005deg 42'54' Lat 050deg04'05' to Long 003deg01'34 lat 058deg38'38' which is the furthest points I can get, the distance is 838.2 miles and time 15.11 hours......... Laughing
