pocketgpsworld.comSource: GPS BusinessNews.Com
Hungarian software company NavNGo this week announced the "immediate suspension of all business activities with Mio International Ltd., a 100%-owned subsidiary of Mitac International Corporation, as a result of continuous breaches of contract”.

Until recently, NavNGo's iGO software was installed on every Mio device in Europe and the USA but following Mio's purcahse of Navman they announced that they wold be dropping iGO in favour of Navman's SmartST software.

The actual facts behind the announcement are unclear and may never be known. Certainly Mio's defection to Navman was well known and came as little surprise but the statement suggests there were other factors involved here. What is surprising is Mio's decision to choose Navman's solution over NavNGo's. iGO has proved very popular and is certainly a more rounded and better implemented package than Navman's. It does however appear on satnav devices from many different brands and it may simply be that Mio wish to create a unique identity for their products.

We can only hope that Mio will work hard to bring SmartST up to scratch, otherwise this could be one route they wish they had not followed.

Definately. Like all Sat Nav software, the SmartSt needs improving, and following CeBITs announcements from everyone, some really innovative features need to be added if Mio-Navman are to maintain their number 3 position

Surely no company would jepodise an already established position, without definate plans?

That said, like you say, with every sat nav and its dog running iGo or Navigon skins, if you want to stand up and out of the crowd, you have to do your own thing

Lets hope it works out

xtraseller.
I read the report as it seems that it is Igo that are dropping Mio, not the other way round. I'll have to look for another good devic e that runs the Igo S/W then as I like MioMap, despite Mio's apparent inability to keep heir customer base happy with good support. The latter seems a bit common to all makes though, to some extent or another.

M8TJT, it's iGo who are contesting breach of contract with Mio, but that is probably just based on Mio dropping them as their software supplier, and taking its development in house

iGO have just lost their biggest customer. No wonder they are unhappy. They just want to make a stink about it, and make it difficult for Mio to support their existing customer base on the iGo platform

Easy solution for Mio is to offer a free transfer of software from MioMap/iGo to the new Mio Moov system, just like Navman did with the iCN630 back in the day, when they moved from Navteq to TeleAtlas

My point was more that this wouldn't have happened if Mio was still using (or wanted to use) Nav-n-Go's iGo software, because they iGo wouldn't have risked losing (or upsetting) their biggest client - not that Mio hadn't done anything wrong... we all do!

Update, with a statement from iGo

http://mobilearsenal.com/new/cebit_nav_n_go_also_makes_a_statement_2.html

and confirming what we predicted, Navman software will be avaiable to previous Mio owners if they update their mapping, interview with Mio president

Looks like some nice software, with the "rough edges" of previous versions taken off

A good video of it in action at http://www.navngo.com/pages/global/eng/popup_igo8_8min

Depending on the model you have go to

http://ukstore.navmanstores.com/?__utma=1.1877590832.1278233130.1278233130.1278233130.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1278233130&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1278233130.1.1.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=navman&__utmv=-&__utmk=44341796

for most Navman models

or
http://eu.mio.com/shop/index.php?language=en-gb&currency=GBP&no_cache=true

for the more recent Mio Navman range

Be sure to check your map version against what is offered - Mio Navman don't update their maps as often as some, so you MAY have the latest version
