Hi, I am about to purchase this model based on my needs which are:

1) Backup GPS unit on my Warrior fishing boat, where I may even look at Garmin blue charts given I get at a good price at auction.
2) Main road use GPS on my Harley for European trips/rallys. Will go for either City Navigator or Metroguide.
In my car I just use an early TomTom Go300, so I don't need this for that use.
3) Walking expeditions where one main interest is filming old plane wreck locations. Intend to use Garmins Topo even though negative reviews.

Like other I am attracted by the £45-£50 saving on US imports over UK models.
My questions are (setting aside the warranty considerations for now):

a) Just how good is the Atlantic base map if at all usable? I have done searches but can't seem to find detailed information on just what extent of use this gives, so can anyone please elaborate?
b) Would I be better going USA and just putting the saving towards the Navigator or metroguide?
c) Is the USA base map likely to cross react with other loaded UK or European software?
d) From where are the tide tables based?
e) Is it relatively easy to lay a trail of waypoints as you go, per chance mist or fog drops down on you (sea or land)?

Apologies for my lengthy first post, but these units are quite expensive, so I need to try and get things sorted before purchase and not afterwards.

Regards.

I have the model you mentioned and bought in the USA on eBay.
I have sent you a Private Message with a contact No.

From my research and help from strumble, I would summarise as:

If there is only £20-£25 difference twixt the two from where you intend to purchase for USA vs Atlantic mapping then go for Atlantic. If the difference is £40-£50 more then go for US base mapping as the saving is good towards other mapping.
Your warranty becomes your own personal gamble

Both base maps will leave you requiring additional mapping (as they are very basic and of little use for anything) whether it be for roads: Navigator or Metroguide
For sea: blue chart
Land: Topo
Or whatever else you come up with or use.

The Atlantic version apparently will help you zoom in/out easier than if you have the US base map. There is no other real advantage from what I can gather.
I am sure Strumble will correct me on this one if I have not understood properly.
Tide tables from what I can gather are not there.
