ok latest update.

I was contacted by a senior manager at tomtom who assures me that my unit should work.

The problem is software related ie need to be using the latest version 7.162.

I explained that we had tried it before, she says that they changed the TMC on the last repair visit so should be fixed.

I upgraded the software as requested, plugged in the TMC and....

Nothing happened, no tmc Sad

Her remedy send it back again to holland for repair number 4
any one got any ideas or thoughts? this is driving me crazy.

Mike

I'll email a contact at TomTom and see if they can do anything here.

thanks Darren,

Surely tom tom would be better placed just swapping out the whole lot? This really cant be good publicity for them.

The real shame is I really like the product and have always been a big advocate of the 910, but i am finding it difficult to endorse it when I am being treated like this.

I appreciate you help though

Thanks

Absolutely, I think you've been more than patient, I've sent the email so lets see if it shakes them into positive action here!

I was wondering if I should push them towards replacing it for a 920? how do they compare in spec and reliability?

This may be the last update, but who can tell. Confused

My device has been back in Amsterdam for a week now, and I was called today by a senior manager there to tell me that my device has been fully tested and is now ok.

The reason was faulty application software. My software was the latest available 7.62.

I asked the reason why the application was corrupt but I am told it can happen sometimes?

Tom tom have loaded my account with traffic and safety cams and updated all of the maps on my device by way of an apology for truly appalling customer service. Their words not mine.

I would like to say that I am happy but after nearly 4 months of constant battling the whole episode has left a bad taste in my mouth.

My next purchase will not be tom tom.

Darren thanks for your support and I will let you know how I get on when the unit returns

regards

mike

tom tom misery Sad

The unit finally came back, so eager to try it I dashed to the car...

Result!! it works, the tmc finally works!!!

Hang on version 6.525! this doesnt bode well..

So I docked it with my pc...it called for updates...7.162

Installed and.....

The TMC doesnt work again!!!! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.....

So 4 months of saga comprising 2 docks, 3 TMC's, 2 UK repair centres, 2 trips to Holland, 1 letter to the chairman, 10+hours of phone calls, 3 levels of escalation within tomtom.....And still unbelievably they do not seem to be able to install 7.162 and get the tmc. Ipod etc to work.....

But hey I got free safety POI and a map....woopdy doo!!

where do I go from here?

Re-install your backup to put 6,525 back on the device, do you really need version 7 software on it as the RDS-TMC is buggy with problems due to delays associated with traffic information at the moment - Mike

I hear you mike, but surely tom tom have an obligation to release bug free ware?

After all it us the punters in the street that support their development..

Admittedly we have got further than ever before...

Is anyone else having the same issues?

Seriously, the advice to put 6,525 back on the device to get it working is something TomTom support have stated themselves on a number of occasions, the simple fact is the vs7 software is buggy when it comes to the RDS-TMC device, roll it back and it will work fine, then keep an eye on the forum for information as to when (if ever) they decide to release a version 7 code that works with the RDS device correctly - Mike

Mike,

I dont think it as simple as that...

You need to bear in mind that I have new maps and map share which are not supported by 6.5 software.

Incidently tom tom have replied with a possible fix which is quite detailed.

I will try it this evening and hopefully it will solve my issues.

If successful I will post the details in a seperate post.

regards

Mike
