Medion launches GoPal P4425 premium satellite navigation device
First sat nav with fingerprint recognition security feature

Medion, a leading consumer electronics vendor, today announces the availability of its flagship satellite navigation device, the GoPal P4425. Incorporating Medion’s new GoPal 4.0 navigation software, the GoPal P4425 is the first sat nav to offer the security of ‘owner identification’, with an integrated fingerprint recognition sensor meaning that only authorised users are able to switch the unit on. Available exclusively from www.medionshop.co.uk , the GoPal P4425 is priced at £249.99 including VAT.

With its stylish, slim design (124x81x17mm) and comprehensive specifications, the Medion GoPal P4425 is a feature-packed premium sat nav. Seamless, street-level maps for the UK and all of Europe offer the details necessary to navigate the most demanding journeys. The Navteq map data shows route information on a new display layout, offering a choice of arrow-based, 2D or 3D intelligent visual guidance with a further hybrid split screen option. Also featuring TMC dynamic rerouting, the GoPal P4425 keeps drivers informed of the latest traffic information and recalculates plotted routes to avoid hold-ups.

The Medion GoPal P4425’s road safety credentials are further enhanced by the accurate, real-time GPS-generated speed display that works in conjunction with the speed limit notification to alert drivers when they are exceeding the limit. Advanced previews of major road signs and Medion’s lane assistant also ensure that drivers are fully prepared and accurately guided when negotiating complicated junctions.

Medion’s latest GoPal 4.0 PE software includes Medion’s touchless technology, making all menu options accessible by spoken commands for safe, entirely hands-free navigation. The GoPal P4425 also incorporates an FM transmitter, enabling the precise text-to-speech rendered voice guidance or MP3 files from the integrated music player to be played back through a car’s speakers. Bluetooth connectivity also enables compatible mobile phones to be paired with the GoPal P4425, allowing drivers to make and receive calls effortlessly and more safely.

Specifications

The Medion GoPal P4425 is supplied with an active cradle incorporating an integrated FM transmitter and TMC receiver, windscreen mount with suction cup, 12v adaptor, 2GB memory card and USB synchronisation/charging cable.

Pricing and availability
Medion’s GoPal P4425 is priced at £249.99 including VAT and is available to buy now exclusively from www.medionshop.co.uk . It is covered by a 12-month warranty.

Considering the price you can purchase a 520 for these days I very much doubt anyone would bother purchasing one of these AND a TomTom license - it just doesn't stack up, and the chances of the full capability of the device being used running something that is not intended will also be somewhat limitted - Mike

I'm tempted to ask what is the value of this feature?

If you are foolish enough to leave a GPS device on display in your car, sooner or later a yob will smash a window and grab it. The fact that he won't be able to use or sell it will be no consolation.

I'm tempted to agree, thieves don't care or consider such issues. It'll still be stolen and I'm sure it won't be too difficult to hard reset and bypass. Even if the security it robust enough to prevent it being used at all by unauthorised users it won't prevent its theft in the first instance.

289 Euro * 0.742592 = 214.69 GBP * 1.175 VAT = GBP 252.16

Looks like "Rip off Europe" for once! Laughing

You added VAT!

The price I quoted was inclusive of tax but did not include shipping.

If it's cheaper in Germany, buy it from there! They will be glad to take your money and post it.

On the subject of new devices, THIS is the one to look out for...

7" screen! You'd not be able to see out of the windscreen. Sadly Mio will be using Navman software from now instead of iGO which is a bad move IMHO.

Yes that's disappointing. We will be sticking with our trusty C710's, they just get on with the job.

A little off topic for this device but really applies to all reviews and product release information.

Is the device PC and Mac compatible. Garmin say they are, TomTom says they are now, but it would be useful in the specifications to have this item confirmed. Although Microsoft think so, the whole world is not PC equipped.
