I just upgraded my CoPilot from 3.5 to the new version 4 Live... in the manual it shows lots on this TMC stuff. It looks very similar to the stand alone software mentioned in http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/pocket-live-wire.php BUT is now part of the programme...

Now I'm wondering if it is free? Have not been able to set it up yet as I only got it yesterday... On the pictures in the manual it shows little triangles very similar to the RAC/Traficmaster screens do with colour linked to severity...

Anyone else used it yet and got it to work?

CoPilot 4.0 is not the latest version, and it doesn't have any connectivity to TMC. You must mean another program.

Nope I have the box in front of me and have just installed it and read the PDF manual...

http://www.alk.eu.com/products/consumer/UKprod/index.asp

http://www.alk.eu.com/products/consumer/features/live.asp

Though there is no mention on the UK/EU website of the traffic things, but it is all outlined in the manual...

That's not TMC. Alk are collecting the traffic data from another source and then push it to your Pocket PC via the "Live" link.

TMC works off the FM radio, not off the internet.

CoPilot is using your mobile phone to get the data. As such you need to have a connection between your mobile phone and the pocketpc and the internet. I am not certain whether CoPilot is operating a subscription or free GPRS scheme but you will have to pay costs via your mobile phone operator. And whilst receiving the data you can't make any calls. It does offer location tracking as well so it could be of interest if you want your wife or partner to check up on you where you are ;-)
But as stated it is not RDS-TMC based.....and thus not 'free'....

Most GPRS phones are GPRS Class B, which means that GPRS is automatically suspended during an incoming or outgoing phone call.

All the systems that pass traffic or other data over GPRS need full GPRS Internet access. Some pre-pay tariffs (and, at least historically, some lower user contracts) only allow GPRS WAP and MMS, which is no good for this purpose.

If you can use Pocket Internet Explorer over GPRS, you should be ready to use traffic data over GPRS - assuming that you have the necessary software and subscriptions from your chosen navigation company.
