just a quick post to state that further to a posters heads up i have
bought an Aquapac case.
The unit came within a couple of days of ordering.

The one thing I will say is I got the MEDIUM size ; Satmap
device will fit in but I would recommend that only MEDIUM or LARGE
are considered. Its the girth of the unit that needs to be considered when looking at the specs.

Oh the item is guaranteed for 3 years ; my thoughts are that the plastic front panel like that in an Ortleib map case will discolour with time. BUT protecting £x pounds of kit its worth replacing when needs arise.

The neck strap is connected to the case via a spring clip- which might be
better replaced with a proper one from a climbing shop (spring AND lock)
if feasible.

Hi nonoftheabove, good to see you have gone the safe way, although i suggested to a poster the Aquapac on one of the other Satmap threads, i haven't got one myself (i use mine for walking, so the A10 is not so vunerable as it is when cycling), i just thought it a sensible purchase to recommend when a poster was talking about covering the A10 in a plastic bag.

However, no doubt i will get an Aquapac, so other than size, where did you find the best place to make a purchase?

Does the medium or large size allow room for a battery case/packet or other required items to be stored inside, or would they be in the way?

I went to Aquapac International
http://www.aquapac.net/ukstore/erol.html#1X0

As to getting anything EXTRA into a Medium like battery recharge
sorry forget that
need to think about LARGE at best. Could get 3 spare batteries in the bottom BUT a tight fit.
The girth of the unit takes up ALL the 'circular' space
For myself its just that i go walking - the bike
got given to Daughter a few years back.

But as i say thanks for the heads UP.

No Jay1967 I ain't going deep sea diving that I know about !!
BUT the cover at the base EASILY comes OFF and keeping it
dry and accesable to view at at all times instead of putting it in a pocket
which to be frank I have also done.
Anyway if one spends £300 + one doesn't want to spoil it for a
measily sum getting the stated extra.
AND the aquapac has a nice lanyard to hang around ones neck
to cart it about- sort of reminds my use of an Ortlieb map case hanging around neck

It does seem to me that one of the advantages of a dedicated recreational GPS over a pocket PC is its robustness. If I am going to need to carry it in an aquapac that's a point against the active 10.

I say this as I am mulling over what to replace my MIO 168 with for walking. ACTIVE 10 is a strong candidate, but at the moment I am struggling to see whether it has significant advantages over (assuming it is ever released) the MIO 360. Given I already have all the mapping, the MIO would also be around £200 cheaper.

I have had no issues when using the device in some fairly wet and windy conditions, it is designed to be water proof so extra protection isn't really required, if the OP has a problem with his device in that the screen won't stay attached correctly then I would suggest a call to SatMap to rectify the issue. The screen on my active 10 takes a huge effort to remove it certainly isn't "quick release" and I haven't got water under it yet - Mike

to put it simply.. you shouldn’t need an aquapak for the active 10 period! However, if you're carrying things around with it (which is not a great idea unless the unit is protected from scratches of whatever it is you've bagged with it) then I can only just see your point. Even then.. it becomes bulky and as CaptianZed said, a point against the A10.

If i had to carry mine in an aqupak id send it back!

Its not the screen that is the problem BUT the covering for the connector on the base that I might get to use WHEN Satmap get their digit out to release the software that is just round the corner (this just seems to be getting longer)

I also find it helpful to carry it about in the aquapac.
BUT then not everyone has the same wants/wishes
IF Jay 1967 doesn't want to go down my path well
I am not stopping him or anybody else for that matter.

I was just trying to point OUT that the Medium/LARGE
versions of the item are the ones to look at ; the small
is TOO small.

nonno,

Calm down!! This is a forum where people DISCUSS things and express their opinions, that’s all. I was merely pointing out the obvious and you are perfectly entitled to do as you please with your SatMap!
Enjoy it!
