after reading different threads on here about pgpsw cameras update and tomtom's camera updates i have decided i am going to subscribe to pgpsw database instead of tomtom's. but i am confused to which i need to download when i subcribe,, the single file or the consolidated file or the speed zoned files ???
what is the difference and which is best to download? i have a new tomtom one 3rd edition regional 512mb internal memory.i am also thinking of adding this sites camera database .ogg files to accompany the camera database,do i just download these set of ogg files and put them into my map folder?
any help and advice would be great.
thanks in advance.

I would start with a read through a few of the FAQ's on This Page, the type of database you want is down to what you want from the device, maximum information where the device reads out the camera type and applicable speed you need the Speed Zoned type, if you are only interested in the camera type consolidated by type will tell you the type of camera but no speed information, if all you want it know there is a camera ahead the single file download will do thi at the cost of knowing the type or speed.

I would go with the Speed Zoned setup, it takes slightly longer to set up - but is well worth it in the end, and when you update the database you simply copy the new files to the device, you only configure the alerts once - not everytime you update - Mike

Please read the FAQ page I linked to in the earlier post, at the very least perform a backup prior to messing with the device (FAQ #1) some of the others detail the speed camera database and also installing spoken alerts so take your time - if you get stuck please ask again - Mike

How to enable the voice alerts is all explained in one of those FAQs (THIS ONE)

Take it one step at a time, as this is an un-documented feature, so the TomTom itself doesn't give you any help and in fact tries to lead you astray! Follow the guide though and it all works fine.

Once you have performed the copy/ paste of the Speed Camera files and the ogg files of your chosen voice to the map folder (which you identify correctly) simply tap the screen, go to Change Preferences/ Warn When Near POI and setup each category (typing the letters "po" will narrow the presented list that you have to scroll through).

Enter a distance you are happy with and when the device prompts with a screen that says "Is this the sound you want to select?" simply answer "YES" even though you hear nothing, this is a bug within the version 7 software that affects all TomTom's running Navcore 7 software) - select Warn only on route as per your preference, then repeat the above for each of the camera categories.
If you answer "NO" to the question about the sound being the correct one the device will lock up requiring you to press the reset button - Mike

It is really your choice to leave them on or delete them but unless you want duplicate warnings i would disable the TT cameras if you leave them on your unit. If you tap the PLUS services icon then the SPEED CAMS icon then DISABLE ALERTS this will turn them off. Wink

I think This is the page you want, Liz is a good choice, but try the wav files through your PC to make your own mind up which voice you like the best for the warnings before downloading the file set, you can always change it later on if you want - Mike
