I have the pGPS speed cam database on my TTGo520, all is great except on driving to London I got so many false alarms of red light cams, gatso, etc on roads I was driving over, near by or on the opposite direction. I know I can reduce the warning distance, but it is possible to have only warning on your route, road or direction you are travelling on, rather than i radius from th cam, as looking at the map it clearly knows which way they are pointing or at which junction?

This is a common problem with the camera files. You can tell TomTom to give warnings only when the camera is on your route, but you cannot make them come only when the camera is in your drivng direction. If the accuracy of GPS was even better and the camera locations were all positioned slightly off the road it should be possible for the satnav to react only to the cameras appearing in your direction, i.e on your side of the road. But I guess it's difficult to achieve this at present.

Any comments from GPS experts?

When setting up the alert, you can say to be warned of POIs only on your route which limits the alerts to those near the road you are planning to be on and slightly to the sides. However, you will NOT get an alert using this method if you do not have a route planned.

You have to remember that this system is designed for alerting you to petrol stations etc where you wouldn't mind having to go down a side street or bothering about which side of the road the station is on if you are running out of fuel. Embarassed

I don't think there will ever be a good solution for London due to the amount of cameras around - you will always get some false positives. Personally, I don't use the redlight category which lessens the alerts received.

The TomTom software cannot make use of directional data, the Speed Camera database from this site does include directional data for the nav units that can use such information.

Moving the camera locations to the side of the road (or slightly off the road as you intimated) is not an option as the database has to support multiple platforms, Route 66 for example will not offer a warning unless the camera is actually on the road you are routed down. I only ever use Warn Only if POI on route and allways have a route planned on the device, this minimises the false alerts but it will never cure them 100% with the current limitations the software has - Mike

Having a son at university in London means many trips along the M4/A4 into the Hammersmith area. I agree with all of the comments above - I see many false positive warnings, annoying but I'd rather have it that way round. Generally, a glance at the map reveals where the false warning is (there are lots of cameras at the bottom of slip roads in this part of the M4/A4).

It also might explain why a driver in the lane outside me suddenly reduced his speed from 60 to 40mph and nearly had White Van Man attempt to mate with his Vectra.....
