These systems usually have their own database which is not compatible with the PGPSW database.

I replied to another post on a similar system recently. No matter how good the unit is not how cheap, without a decent database and regular updates all it will become is an expensive paperweight.

Almost all use proprietary data formats and so can only use their own database. Without knowing who supplies the data, ,how frequently the updates will be and what if any subscription fee is required I would strongly caution against purchase unless you are happy to take the gamble.

I have just bought 1 of these, updates free for life in big letters on the box. Looked on manufactures web site, 'updates coming soon'. Tried it as soon as i got it, works great, from cigar socket or rechargeable battery. Recharge via USB cable which is provided. Price on manufactures site.
£130. I'm very pleased so far but only had it about 1 hour. Link to site.

You might want to read this thread regarding NovusGPS and Talex....

Darren,

You are quite right to express caution. There is a dispute between the Novus group and the new owner of Talex regarding the rights to this and other Talex products. The company that produced Talex went into administration and the rights to the database and products were sold. However Novus tried to attract Talex customers by offering free updates from their site. That link has now been removed but I think this will get very messy and the only people to lose out may be the customers.

As a whistleblower I am a bit reluctant to say more at this time, but would I buy one of these for a friend or family member -- not on your life.

As an observation on the use the lights on the unit would soon drive you to distraction in low light or night driving.

Regards

Very interesting, of course the whole debacle suggested something was afoot but it is nice to know more info.
