Site extremely "slooooow"

Has anybody else noticed the speed of the site has decreased to very "Slooooow", and in some cases not getting through at all. This is such a great site, with superb forums, if I cannot get my daily fix, I go into a mood. I have a 1Mb cable download and no other sites are giving me problems.

It's already been discussed in various threads already, we are trying to do something about it. The reason why the site is running so slow is we have quadrupled the amount of users that are visiting the site on a per second basis. This means requests are sitting in queue until they can be dealt with by the server. This started happening after CeBit and you usually find at large events like these that the extra traffic will die down, but in our case people have loved the site so much they've stayed and keep coming back on an hourly basis.

To resolve this means upgrading the complete infrastructure of the site to new server. Yes we did this last August and it took us about 3 weeks of solid work (10 hours a day), and the server we looked at providing was catered for to give us at least 1 years growth and most probably at the rate we were at 2 years, but quadrupling

We have the server now in place we now have to look at spending a weeks time for 2xDBA's/Site Admins to fully test and re-test so we make sure we can get a clean switch over from one server to the other.

This isn't a small task, and a lot can go wrong so it needs to be planned properly, and as you all know we all have day jobs, so we're having to do what we can in the evenings or when we have spare time available.
