I didn't consider sending on the SD card to another user as piracy, I did it to make greater use of the card I no longer need, this should help others and the supplier. An update to the software is hardly illegal, so I see nothing wrong in forwarding the card - Mike

I've updated mine thanks to Mike sending his copy to me (if anyone else wants it sent to them PM me your address and I'll forward it to you).

Assuming this is legal (someone tell me if not) first person to PM me with an address, i will send you my SD card.

I very much doubt it is illegal...if anything it is saving Satmap the cost of a 256 MB SD card...and postage. On asking them about the issues the update addresses Richard did the disclaimer about not providing any guarantees that version of the upgrade software is not corrupted or damaged as he hadn't sent it to me directly but by then I'd already done it.....he added that the update will be available as a download soon from the website.

Incidently I've used my Active 10 for the first time since going to 1.03....I think 'Small Track' should be renamed 'Microscopic Track' Shocked Laughing ....to be fair I just wanted the option of not having a visible track and that's what they have done.

Hi All,
I've just loaded and tried the unit with the new software upgrade 1.03. Also, new nickel hydride batteries with a 1 hour charger.
I went out in the dark and rain last night for 17 miles on and off road. I kept the screen on the whole time at about 40% brightness.
The unit now seems to work perfectly and is bloody brilliant. I finished the ride with all battery bars still showing.
My earlier problem with freezing screen etc was cured by slightly tightening (with advice from Satmap team) the battery contacts.
The zoom is now much faster and easy to use on the bike with my fingerless gloves. I found a few trails off road that I had not noticed before.
I converted the snail trail to a route when I got home. The cut off corners were not too bad, I just edited the way points where I wanted more accuracy.
I've just spoken to Richard and Mark at Satmap, website and version 1.04 probably 2 weeks away. I'm looking to get 1:25000 post code centred custom map for my general ride territory. The 1:50000 seemed pretty good last night, but I really like the detail of the 1:25000.
I too would like to see an improved route system such as toggling on and off, its definitely too much clutter with greyed out routes overlapping.
I would also like the ability to add bends in the route without adding waypoints. I would only want waypoints at junctions or key points of my choosing.
Other than that, Hip Hip Hooray.
Thanks,
Simon

Have you got version 1.03 software ? This seems to help all sorts of issues.

Yes I have and it still freezes....every 3-4 hours....not a huge problem but something that exists nonetheless.

I asked them the issues 1.03 deals with and they said it addressed two things, the SD card reading at start up and the size of the snail trail. I'm sure that if it addressed or was designed to address freezing or battery consumption when the unit is 'off' they would've mentioned it...I know I would have if it was my creation.

Hi Robs,
I've found that software 1.03 improves the speed of zooming and all the other actions. It's worth a try. If not, I would send the unit back for them to fix/ check etc. I'm sure they will do that for you.
I took mine out on a ride again last night for another 90 minutes on the same batteries, it went to 3 bars but stayed like that to the end. It looks like the NH batteries are good for a solid 4 hours in that case. I think I will always load fresh (recharged) batteries for each trip and carry a spare set in case of unforeseen longer trip.
I will probably experiment with the power saving to see what duration I get.
I've also set the unit to "one touch". This allows zooming etc. at the first touch of the buttons.
Thanks,
Simon
