I know I have asked some people for this seperately (and thanks to you who have been trying!), but is there any chance that anyone can post a link here for the old beta POI loader 2.4.0 as it seems to be the only version that supports .wav files and garmin tell me they have no intentions (at the mo) on putting it back in later releases! Great!

Just means, as tomthompson has proved, I and possibly others could use Ash's great bit of kit fully!

Thanks in advance...

OK Ash, something to get the grey mattter working on (I know we have discussed this previously, but maybe you'd forgotten!).

Is there any way you can get your CM to use a wav or mp3 as the first approach warning and then overspeed warning to be a "bong", rather than the voice warning simply repeating itself as you close in. Continous bongs if you are over the speed limit posted are very good, but continous mp3 or wav's are a little annoying!

I know the argument is if you stay below the limit it will stop, but I'd rather stop a bong at that stage over a wav/mp3 warning!

Hope this is a possible function others would also be grateful for. After all, you are the king of programming!

Thank you for the link on that. I downloaded it, and along with Ash's great utility, the sound files (coverted to .wav files using Audacity), I now get verbal "safety" camera warnings on my Nuvi 250. Why Garmin don't have .wav support on the POI loader releases after this Beta release is beyond me, but I am sure they have their reasons Confused

Thanks again.

I think the beta used a third party application to provide the WAV support, and I can only imagine they couldn't agree a licensing model, so had to shelve the idea (or delay it whilst they came up with another solution). With the likes of Audacity being available, it's probably not going to be one of their top priorities.

I've been trying for ages to get Ash's voice files onto my Garmin Streetpilot C510D for the safety camera warnings. Despite trying everything I could think of, without success. Originally I was put off by a view on one thread that no mp3 support meant no WAV support for the voices, but tomthompson seemed to prove that didn't always apply. So I tried following the instructions to the letter - still no good.

So, is it like the i3 which apparently definitely cannot support this function, or is it still worth me trying? Has anyone managed this or proved it's a lost cause? If I knew, I could spend my hours doing something meaningful ...

Very grateful for any views.

Just to try and help . And not knowing the capabilities of each model this is how I got it working on my 2720 (has no mp3)

Download poiloader_2400beta.exe and install on PC . Do make sure that is the version that your using.

Then using poiloader remove all poi’s from the unit. Don’t know why but it wouldn’t work without doing this .

Download Pocketgpsworld speed camera database.Either using Ash’s great utility or straight download of speed rated files (about 27 files)

Add to the downloaded files .wav sound files and they must match exactly the name of the .csv or .gpx(ash’s) files
So you have
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_Seventy.wav
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_Seventy.gpx
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_Seventy.bmp

For Ash’s

Or
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_70.wav
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_70.csv
PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_70.bmp

For the standard download

To use this with Ash’s utility which is well documented as really GREAT you do need to use the full program so a donation is required to Ash. And you need to tick for camera type with speed

I didn’t begrudge it at all as it stops the warnings starting up so far in advance of where you are .

The sound warnings are much better than the bongs and worth all the hassle I have been through.
Very Happy

And I am so pleased that with Ash's intervention at least 3 of us have so far got voice warnings on units that dont support mp3 files Idea

Many thanks for taking the trouble tomthompson. I think I did what you describe, but I will go through it again. It's easy sometimes to overlook things you think you have done exactly, especially when you keep retrying to exhaust all possibilities!

One clarification (for the moment!) please. I have a camera sub-folder within a more general POI folder - I tried a few combinations, but - do the voice files need to in exactly the same (sub)folder as the cameras?

I'm sure many will be helped by your description.

A more general question which I believe has been asked before, in case this procedure doesn't work - does anyone know where these warning 'bongs' hide? As they are not picked up from the voice file on the GPS (which I have tried altering), presumably they must be incorporated within the POILoader code, or some ancillary file. I was just wondering, if all else failed, whether they are stored somewhere accessible.

The files have to have exactly the same filename (except for the file extension), and must be in the same folder.

They are stored within the unit's code, and are not accessible (as best I know).

Hi -

I'm using the newest version, supplied direct from Ash. My Camera subscription has a month left before renewal. This has worked stably on an standard XP box for ages, but now it's throwing up the above error message.

I've checked manually and there isn't a new database to download, but I rely on Camera Manager to notice when there is..... Crying or Very sad

Any ideas appreciated -

Steve
