I was delighted to find that in Germany recently, I was getting up to eleven different stations broadcasting Traffic signals, which my Navman picked up. You can choose between them or set the T1 onto Auto, which I did. Wink

However, the question is, WHY cannot we in the UK have a half decent TMC that covers the whole of the country or, indeed, a selection of stations providing this service.

I don't know how many GPS units are now used by the public in this country but it must run into millions, so the demand is there (isn't it?) and then who decides to provide the TMC service and why cannot the Beeb offer a full coverage across the country. I don't know what it costs to set up and maintain such a service but I would have thought ( in my ignorance ) that with the traffic information that is currently provided on a host of stations across the country, the little extra to also provide a TMC, would not be too onerous.

Perhaps someone out there could enlighten me? How about yet another petition? Rolling Eyes

Oh! Before anyone asks, Yes, I have read all the pages on this thread "Sticky: ITIS Traffic Information" above. Wink

It's mainly caused by the low transmissions signal strength limits placed on the radio masts. With decent external car aerial connections, things are better. In mainland Europe, they are allowed much higher tranmission strengths, hence why you get many more stations.

It's something to do with not being able to enter into a commercial agreement as the BBC is not a commercial operation.

Thanks for the response. Added to my store of information. Hopefully things will improve some time in the future.
