I Have a problem with my TT Bluetooth reciever. It seems to turn itsself off when incar and wired through my IPAQs Mounting kit, and taking power from the Cig lighter. The Siglighter socket is also powering the Re-Radiator antenna, which is essential in my vehicle.

Does this sound like its turning its self off for protection against spikes? If so with the absence of the Cradles now, how would I filter the supply to the unit to prevent this from happening.

Mike

If my TT loses power in the cradle or is removed from the cradle it turns itself off. (this is using the permanent cable).

Someone else had this problem a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if it could be because the car is cutting power to the socket when starting the engine? If your gps uses a push-switch to stay on instead of a hardware two-position switch it could be just losing power long enough to reset it. If so, it could probably be fixed with a capacator and diode wired into the socket feed to maintain power for a couple of seconds.

I thought that - But the Bluetooth GPS has a inbuilt battery that lasts for about 6 hours, so I would have thought that wasnt the problem. Also it turns its self off when im driving down the road, or Sat idle.

I could wire a capacitor across the Cig lighter socket, however being 10Amps, and 12V what Capacitor would I use, just to smooth all the spikes out?

It can't be the volts being dragged down by other circuits when starting then. Does it switch off only when the engine is running or at other times too? That would rule out spikes.

If you need smoothing you could just get a dc/dc voltage converter. A quick search found this for ten quid
http://www.quasarelectronics.com/4003.htm Could be worth a try and it isn't too much to waste if it doesn't help.
