Name of go 500 version

Hi All,

I have had a go500 for years with no problems until i bought a 520.

While having problems with the 520 and tomtom home 2 beta I then uninstalled it and returned my 520.

Then i connected my 500 to home and it didn't like it.

My 500 rebooted and the screen started sideways with the egg timer symbol and then jumped to the correct way.

I found the screen very dull even on 100% and the sound very low!


I couldn't restore these so i deleted the sd card and copied a back up i made from a cd.

I still have the dull screen and when i check the version via tomtom home it says ID = Navigator, 6.520.

Is this right for my 500?

Any body else have this happen?

I haven't seen the "dull screen" problem, but 6.520 is quite a common navigation app version for the Go 500. That's the version on my Go 300 at the moment.

Is it possible the backlight has failed on the LCD panel? We had that on a laptop just recently here at the office, and after a while (after we'd bought a replacement, annoyingly) there was a faint click and it came back on. But backlight failure is quite a common problem with LCDs (in general, not specifically with TomTom Go). If this is the case, I'd think it more than likely it's just a coincidence it went at the same time as you connecting it to Home 2.
