The other pet hate is people who throw rubbish out the window of their car. Someone threw a McDonalds drink container and burger box out the window right in front of me the other. I naturally presumed that he had not intended to do this, so I helpfully picked it all up then pulled alongside him at the lights. "I think you've dropped some stuff mate!" and threw it all back in his open window. The look on his face was priceless. Needless to say I made a quick getaway...
I've only ever put the boot into a car once and that was because it was moving over and forcing me into the path of an oncoming bus. I was level with the drivers door and the dozy bint still hadn't seen or heard me. It really was a life or death situation. _________________ Gone fishing!

A few years ago i was going down the M6 (in a car thankfully) when a pallet came off a lorry in front of me.
Have you ever tried to anticipate where a large bouncing object is going when it's moving in front of you along a motorway at high speed, i hasten to add i wasn't hanging around speed wise at the time.
I ended up running straight over it, in the split second it was actually laying flat on the road, it lifted my car up and i still managed to keep the car on the road (i was still over the speed limit ).
I was very lucky, the car had no dents, but broken plastic underneath and later i found a bent wheel, but just imagine if i had been on a motorcycle. _________________ TomTom Go 60

It reminded me of my ex next door neighbour who kept finding 'dog mess' on his front garden. He kept a watch and saw the dog squat on his grass with the owner close by watching. He went outside, picked the mess up in a plastic bag, followed the bloke home and knocked on his door. When the bloke answered he deposited the 'mess' out of the bag onto the carpet saying 'I believe this belongs to you'. :P My neighbour never had to made a quick getaway as he was a 6' 6" rugby player built like a .......

Past my test in April after starting lessons in January. Only took me 16 hours and passed first time. Up until Xmas 06 i had never needed nor wanted to drive. I went by my 17 birthday back in 1997 and whilst all my mates were taking lessons i really wasn't interested.
What prompted me at Xmas 06 though was my wife expecting our first child in May. I decided now was the time to learn to drive so i could drive her to the hospital when May came. After saving up £170 from a rebate of our electricity bill, i put together another £130 of christmas money (i know 27 years old and still gets money for xmas ), i decided to start In january.
Now my main reason for not learning back in 97 was, and this may sound silly, i thought i was too left sided to drive. Im left handed and left footed and as such my right side is weaker. I honestly thought that because of this, i wouldn't be able to drive.
On the first lesson i was bricking it. Somehow i managed to pick it up straight away and before we finished my instructor had taken me down the bypass and round 3 roundabouts . I was buzzing. I rang up the wife who was at work and she asked how i felt, tired,headache etc? I said no. 2 minutes had passed after putting the phone down and BAM, my head was pounding. I didn't realise how much i took in on that first lesson (2 hours). Anyway i proceeded with further 2 hours at a time sometimes having two sessions a week. The money was set aside so i didn't notice any dent in my pocket thankfully.
April came and i had passed my theory (2nd attempt) on a Tuesday. I had my final lesson booked for Thursday and if it went well (last manourve was emergency stop) my instructor would say i can put in for the test. All went well and so i logged online to book the test.
1 months waiting was the time, i was gutted. Even though it would still of put me in before the due date of our child, i really didn't want to wait 1 month. Then i looked at the top. Late cancellation, 9:00am Friday (tomorrow) I started to shake, i wanted to do it but all my family thought it was too soon. I rang my instructor up but he was out so left a message. Obviously i needed him available in the morning for any chance of taking it. He rang me back at 7pm and couldn't believe it. He knew i was ready and had a clear schedule so i went ahead and booked it. That night i was nervous. I dont get nervous often and really didn't think i would be nervous on my test, but because it was so soon after my last lesson (18 hours) it was alot to take.
Friday morning came and we went out for an hour before hand. Right before the test time my instructor showed me under the hood and asked me the questions that you need to answer. Good job because the two i was asked i didn't even know until 30 minutes before hand .
The test went good, i got 4 minors and no majors even though i may of gone through an amber to red light early on. My examiner from what i can only think, looked at the test as a whole because he didn't mark until a good 20 minutes in rather than at the point of my mistake. MY two manourvres were a turn in the road (on the same road in the same place i was taught ), and bay parking at the end ( i was the last one to leave and the first one back so had an empty carpark to park in). I parked up and passed.
Now i will be the first one to say i was extremely lucky. I haven't and will not take it for granted that i passed in such a short space of time. I won't shout about saying its all easy, i dunno how people manage to fail etc. I know i was very fortunate but at the same time now glad i have learnt to drive.
MY instructor asked on the way home if i wished i had of taken lessons before, i said no and i still maintain i wasn't ready for one reason or another to learn to drive.
4 months on and i have done a couple of long journeys. Both having been quite recent, for pleasure. The first was down to the Air Tattoo, 2 hours 45 minutes each way. And Sunday just gone to watch arsenal, 2 hours each way. Having got my tomtom oneXL last week, i could only use it for the arsenal trip but it is a godsend to have such a device to help navigate.

Passed my test in 1976 after six 1hr lessons including my fifth lesson when we spent 10 minutes chasing another motorist round the streets of SE London so that my instructor could give him a mouthful for cutting me up.
Passed my HGV with the London Fire Brigade in 1984 and still got two years left before I can retire at the ripe old age of 51.
Only ever had 2 speeding convictions one in the car 36 in a 30 caught by a m/cycle cop(lying B*****D) and once in an HGV 46 in a 40(Camera in Margate),both now expired,now use camera DB so it should not happen again(fingers crossed).

A man after my own heart - my sixth lesson was the hour before my test (passed first time) in 1963. That was when I did my one and only emergency stop lesson and some hand signals. Hey Ho! By the way, I didn't have a car or any means of practising in between lessons either. Back in 1967 I did 5 days driving with a work colleague in a transit pickup to the isle of grain and back, took my test the following week and passed first time two weeks later took a motor cycle test past first time then went on to take HGV 1 passed second time ho hum cant be first all the time. Passed test in May 1968. Fairly mundane driving life since then. One bad accident - ran out of road in Anglesey and wrote off my car on a brick wall - this was in my student days.
Got pulled up by a policeman after going through a very visible 'hair-dryer' speed trap near Buxton (but not speeding) - he had to let me go as he was supposed to have stopped the guy behind me - similar car!
Most of my working life required UK travel - around 30,000 miles/year for 20+ years.
Passed PCV test in 2002 (automatic only buses). That was great fun - I had 3 days of 'training', a theory test and practical test all in 2 weeks. The fun bit is that you can go on motorways while you are learning! Came as a bit of a shock to me when asked to turn onto the M56 after only 2 hours behind the wheel. Motorway driving is, apparently, an integral part of the test.
Driving is now down to regular, short, commute to work and back with weekends all over the place. _________________ Phil

I passed my test in the army in 1956 did a lot of my early years swanning around the middle east in the desserts like Oman Yemen Libia Jordon and in Cyprus(no dessert) I was then(after 12years) given a medical discharge I then became a lorry driver HGV 1 in those days I am now retired

I passed my test (first time) in 1984 after eight 1 hour lessons in a Vauxhall Nova. I also had bikes and got two speeding tickets on them before a bloke pulled out in front of me one day and I then gave up biking in favour of the relatively 'safe' environment of a car.
Joined the Police in 86 and since then I have sat and passed several driving courses and hold an 'Advanced Driver - Class 1' certificate together with a 'Security Escort' certificate for offensive and defensive driving techniques.
Have driven Formula 1st single seaters and raced XR2i's for fun, but as I now drive very fast for a living, I no longer need thrills when off duty.
Built a kitcar once, a 'Marlin' which to those unfamiliar to the name, was in the basic style of a Morgan. The only thing was, it had a 1275cc Marina engine and gearbox (don't laugh) but still went reasonably quick. It felt fast anyway with my nether regions only a few inches off the ground ! _________________ Tommo...
