Hi Guys

I have always had a wired GPS receiver, but I'm now thinking of buying a BT one. I have seen whilst surfing around BT receivers with 44 channels. Is this a gimmick, or do they work better than the 20 channel ones ?
I'm open to all suggestions for BT receivers.

Thanks

Howard

It is a gimmick in some respects, the general rule of thumb is that only 12 satellites can be seen at a single point when stood on the planet - it might be possible to see more than this given additional altitude (balloon/ aircraft).
Extra channels can be handy when the signals are bouncing/ reflecting off buildings, but I wouldn't have thought 44 were required. In a few years time when/ If the European GPS system gets going then receivers may well have 44 channels but that technology is not in use yet - Mike

Thanks for that Mike.

I will go back to looking at the standard 20 channel GPS receivers. The BT-359W looks interesting.

The BT-359 is a good receiver I had a play around with one late last year - nice device, also have a look at the iBlue as well, this one will run for 30 hours of a single charge - Mike

Thanks for that Mike.

I like the idea of a 30 hour charge. The cold start of 36 seconds is a bit off putting though.
The latest review I have found is dated jan 15 2006. Is there another latest version of the iBlue or is there just the one version would you know?

Thanks Mike

Now that looks very nice. Your link to the manufacturers website seems to be in a foreign language and I cant access it, but after googling it I came across it being sold on ebay from the Uk at £21.99 plus £12.65 p&p which sounds reasonable.

I have some 32 channel ones which are great. They are auto on and auto off and seem to last for weeks if you don't use them (if you see what I mean).

I got them off ebay (search for 32 channel GPS) at around £24 each (depends on the bidding) with free postage. An example is here.

I keep them in the motorbikes and the cars - never power them on or off and they work fine and fast
