I wouldn't dare trying to hard wire it. It is a company car and Im told all the electrics are fibre optic or some such affair.

In which case the extension lead will solve any issues you may encounter, £2.99 from Maplin.

I know some people gripe, but I'm always pleasantly surprised at how helpful people in this forum are, particularly the mods. Always a prompt and helpful response.

Cheers

Yes I totally agree with you there teecee90! As a new member I feel very welcome and have had all my questions answered very quickly.

Just to let everyone know amazon have now listed the tomtom go 520/720 cases - I have placed an order for the standard case at £17:

See Here.

No pictures, but I imagine they will look like every other tomtom case!

We're a very very long way away from that. All MapShare does is provide a quicker route to reporting errors, nothing more Confused

I also think if it were to happen we would need to be able to add roads (like the article says). From what I have seen all that is available on the new system is to change what is already there - no means to add/adjust the layout of roads.

Didn't I read somewhere that TomTom are not even intending to feed back the MapShare data to TeleAtlas?

I've certainly not read that, it makes little sense for them not to as they aren't in any position to release their own maps?

Here's a few quotes. None of which could be said to prove it either way.

Quote:
Interview with TomTom USA President; More on MapShare

Q: How does MapShare affect your relationship with Tele Atlas, which provides your map data? Are they going to use any of the data you're collecting to update their future maps or databases?

A: I can't really comment on what is going to happen with the data that we gather, but it has no reason to change our relationship with Tele Atlas.

Quote:
More interesting would be what TomTom will do with the data and the extent to which they will share the changes with the map data suppliers. I suspect they won't but that leaves the issue of who will validate the changes.

Quote:
My guess is that this will evolve into something that is quite powerful, and very proprietary. So changes that you get on TomTom’s MapShare won’t be available to you on another GPS brand that is running TeleAtlas unless TeleAtlas figures out the issue itself.

Quote:
TomTom will collect and report these corrections to map supplier Tele Atlas, after which they can be inserted into upcoming map-Map Share releases.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Laughing

Does anyone know if TomTom will have any Eastern European maps ready for the TT720 and what coverage they'll have? I'm very interested in the 720 but will need Eastern European maps as well.
