Was about to make a tomtom 910 purchase from totalpda.com, was informed that the 910 is now discontinued as of last week.

Im a bit surprised by this as I called up tomtom uk support and they confirmed that the 910 has not been discontinued.

So who's right?

More importantly:

1) Should i wait to buy the latest tomtom (want the best there is in the tomtom range)
2) Should i go ahead with the 910 deal?

If 2) I'm looking for the tmc reciever +910, cheapest price is £310.20 inc post from totalpda but thats for refurbished unit.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks

I think TT are right as they have only just been crowing about the 910 on their website "T3: The TomTom GO 910 is part of this year’s Hot 100!"

Vendor is mistaken, or lying because they want to get rid of refurbs.

vroomfondel : ta for that, digging up a bit on google on this - looks like at cebit technology expo this year tomtom unveiled a new replacement for the go 710, named "go 715" ----- could be some truth in replacing the 910 with a 915 although couldnt find anything on it

Want to make a purchase for a new satnav, so my options are:

tomtom one xl EU + TMC Reciever <----- advantage: it is the latest, but not same fancy features of 910
tomtom 910 + TMC reciever <------- if buy it, unit might be replaced shortly???

If you don't want/need the bells & whistles; One XL is the way to go.

Don't forget though only the 910 can use the excellent Text To Speech system to read out road names etc. Also the One XL cannot perform hands free for your mobile phone.
The 715 announced recently is intended for the fleet operators IIRC it is not a replacement for the 710. No doubt there will be new models at some point in the future, but the maps are the important issue and TomTom won't be stopping support for the older products, lets face it even the original Go Classic can use the latest maps.
In terms of hardware fitted within the 910 it still has one of the best GPS receiver chipsets fitted, with prices below 300 pounds you can't really go wrong - Mike

Mike wow, awesome reply thanks m8 - do you have any idea how the refurb 910 with 24 months warranty from totalpda might be vs a new 910?

Would it be the same or would i be takin a chance on the refurb that isnt worth it?

THANKS

With a re-furb you will possibly save money, however a new unit "should" give you the option for a new map, this is down to TomTom's discretion = the units sat on shelves at the moment do not contain the latest map, some people have had a success with the company in getting a free map update with a new device. - Mike

It's not the 910 but the 710 that is being dis-continued.

Cheers

I did not get a map update although I baught a NEW 910 three weeks ago.

I payed the equivalence of GBP 270 in a store in Sweden.

It's a nice machine for that price and the new maps obviously is not worth the money as it's not updated in any noticeable extent.

I bought a 910 about a month ago (pc world £290), very pleased with it. TomTom also upgraded my maps for free after a couple of e-mails.
Have used Tom Tom customer service a couple of time now and so far they have been very good.

Cheers

Halfords do the deluxe package for £290, then use quidco for another £12 off...And you have a brand new one much cheaper than a refurbished!

Gosh yeah the deal has expired already! I only got mine last Friday! In that case I think handtec is offering the next cheapest at £276, but then when you use google checkout you get another £10 discount....Though that deal is ending today...

dejongj: ta m8, your intention and help appreciated but right now the mere mention of "H****c" is like a red flag is to a bull to me. There's just no way on earth cheap price or cheap price id ever use em again:

Read my story here:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=56101

However what i might or for anyone else who also doesnt want to use handtec:

1) Pricematch handtec with another gps co like totalpda.
2) Be assured of better customer service than wot i experienced.

Bottom line for me, sorted a deal with Misco on the 910 at £282. A friend gets discount from them at work.

Thanks to all for your advice to date. Much appreciated!

Best Wishes

Bill and Anne
