What method were you using to get the voices? If you were replacing the data.chk file, that method has been superceeded by the "ogg file" way.

Have a look on THIS PAGE. There are versions of "Liz" for all three speed camera file options.

THIS PAGE has fuller instructions on setting them up.

If none of the above helps, can you give a bit more information?
What did you upgrade? Operating software? Speed cam database? Hardware?

I dont do the upgrade myself as I dont feel comptent enought to do it.

The upgrade was the latest version of the road maps UK .

The files are there as I get a warning voice alright but not the "Liz" so I assume I need only change the voice some how but am very nervous about changing anything in case i upset the whole lot.

I can understand your reluctance to play with files on your system and if you are at all unsure then it would be best to get someone who has done it before to do it for you.

So who 'installed' the Liz warnings in the first place?

Can they do it again for you?

These are rhetorical questions (that's my big word for today) so I don't really expectyou to answer Laughing

The main point to tell whoever sets it up for you is that *usually* a new map gets installed to its own new folder.
First you will need to actually switch over to the new map in Change Preferences / Manage Maps/ Switch map.
All the POI files and their associated audio and icon files will need to be moved or copied into the new map folder, and then set up again in the "warn when near" menu.

Thanks fo the replies but I still dont seem to grasp the way to change the voice, I think its all working but instead of Liz I am getting a male voice and I would like to revert to the Liz one, so if its performing it warning is it just a matter of changing to the other voice, if so how?

The navigation voice is changed by going to Change Preferences/ Change Voice but this will only alter the spoken voice for the directions it does not affect the camera warnings.
For the camera warnings there are two different methods available to use.

1/ Swapping out the data.chk file for a modified one
2/ Adding ogg audio files to the map folder matching the POI files name

Either of the above methods can produce spoken camera warnings using a number of different voices incl Liz.
Can you find out exactly which method was used before we go any further, simply adding the ogg files is not a good idea IF the unit is running a modified data.chk file. - There is no selection from a menu for the camera voices they are loaded to the device manualy - Mike

As the current voice is working I assume it is the correct file or that its ok as it is all I want to do is to change fromthe man's voice to the "Lis" as it was before prior to the upgrade of maps.

We realise that....

However, what we are saying is that it is not a simple matter of "switching over" the voice.

The NAVIGATION voices are switched by a menu on the screen (in Preferences).

The POI WARNING or ALERT voices are not. They do not come from TomTom and have to be added by the owner.
You EITHER replace one file (called data.chk) which replaces all the inbuilt sound effects with a SINGLE voice, OR you leave that file alone and ADD a whole set of audio files (one for each POI/camera type). Again this only adds a SINGLE voice.

So when you say "I assume it is the correct voice file", IT CAN'T BE (sorry for shouting).

Therefore, we need to know which method your friend used to give you "Liz" originally, before we can tell you how to get her back.

Lets get back to basics...
1. What model of TomTom are you using?
2. When you go throug the "warn when near" setup in Preferences/Manage POIs (for any POI category), can you hear (with the test button) any NOISES like sirens, cow moos etc. (this might sound silly, but IS significant).

I am using Tom Tom 6 on a Medion 95000 PDA with the latest map upgrade,

the camera warnings are set up with Polite 3 but this is not audibile presumable because of the Gatso warnings instead, all the "warning when near" are all unchecked to allow it to be used as a warning without having set a destination.

The warning voice that you are near a camera is male.

And that is the one I would like to revert back to the "Liz" voice

Normal instructions regarding route directions are the original? female voice.

The speed camera base I have down loaded is the UK single file with all camera's.

Sorry, I'm not sure whether we are getting anywhere with this...

Have you tried any of the suggestions from the previous posts? (or got the person who did it for you originally to check them out?)

Until you do, there's not a lot more we can suggest...

Can you explain to me how to load the voice file? of Liz to my PDA in the first instance.

If there is an existing file@ which is the male voice can the other file beinstalled over it.

If so which of the file do I use bearing in mind I have the uk consolidated all uk camera file running on my Medion.

The instructions on how to load the Sound Files are to be found HERE.

Note that the data.chk method is no longer supported for the latest Software Versions.

To use the OGG File Method, which is supported, you need to download This File, to be able to have Liz and the Consolidated Set.

Colin, go to This Page, scroll down to the 5th entry which is listed as Liz and selct the download for the Consolidated file download (out of the three options against the Liz voice it is second in the list - directly under the wav sample icon for Liz).
Unzip the download and copy the ogg files to your map folder (the same place you put the speed camera POI files).
Start TomTom and go to change preferences/ Manage POIr Warn When Near POI and scroll through the list to find the pocketgps_uk_mobile entry _ select it.
If asked to delete the entry press the NO button.
Select a distance and set the "warn only if POI on route" checkbox as per your normal preference.
Repeat the above for the other four pocketgps_uk POI files.
Thats it the warning voice should now be set to Liz, either plan a route using AtoB then demo the route to prove this is working or take the device for a drive past a local camera.
The green option is as follows:
select Advanced Planning AtoB select a departure point as address/ postcode enter FY43NN house number 95.
set a destination point as address / postcode enter PR41AX house number 33
Go to show route / Route demo, set the speed to 100% and sit back watch/ listen you should get two camera warnings within the firrst couple of mins - I hope they were using the Liz voice - Mike
