Dave over at dnote.nl and the author of POIEdit has updated POIEdit to v3.0. The main differences are more on the server side than client side, but it will enable us to categorise POI's easier in the future.

The new version can be downloaded from the dnote.nl website or run an earlier version of POIEdit and let it update to the new version.

It also works with ActiveSync 3.7 - saving a lot of hassle.

Ironically the "AutoUpdate Now" stopped working on my Compaq iPaq 3800 tonight. It had been working perfectly OK using POI Edit V2.6.0 Build 47 but now I'm getting "Cannot retrieve proxy settings. Probably these are set to Auto Detect or Auto Confirguration. You can set proxy settings manually from the Online|Proxy Settings menu" But I haven't knowlingly changed anything since the last AutoUpdate download.

Has the latest release anything to do with my problem?

And do I need to remove the earlier version from my iPaq before I transfer V3 across or would this mean losing any previously stored or created POIs?

It's possible these are defaulting to ON and these should be turned off. If you turn off these settings you should be okay.

The great thing about POIEdit is it's a PC program, there's nothing to remove from the iPAQ as it doesn't install anything, it only copies OV2 files and BMP files to your Pocket PC.

Cool, will be downloading that later. Does it still alert you when it's finished syncing, meaning that it's not really practical to automatically leave working all the time?

All that is needed now is a decent bmp. of the British Isles. I have downloaded one, but once calibrated is out in some places by about 50 miles - not very good.
Any suggestions?

CS - I have the same problem as you at this end. Did you resolve the issue? All I've found is an automatic/manual toggle for the proxy settings (that's not where the error message said it would be) and both produce the same error message.

BAH!

Something completely different. It was Windows XP's built in Firewall. Turns out it had suddenly started blocking POI Edit and my WinMX account. Stupid thing. I've got ZoneAlarm running, so I've just turned the firewall off.

Cheers anyway.
