format is below:

-1,52234;53,67818;30;1;1;84

lon ; lat ; speed ; camera type ; directions ; heading

lon and lat are written with commas instead of decimal points and each ection is separated by a ;

all i need is the DS code for TEMPORARY and MONITRON as i have done everything else needed to create a DS-formatted PGPSW release

having said that, if we can't figure it our we can always mark monitrons and temps as gatso's if that's ok with you lot?

mike - i have the following:

1 = GATSO, Watchman
2-7 not present
8 = "Watermark" - unless anyone can add to these?
9 = Mobile
10= Redlight
11 = Specs
12 = Truvelo
13 = SPECS
14+ not used

the only change is that 11 also appears to be specs so maybe one is for permanent and one for temporary?

no sign of monitrons or temporary so can i suggest that we mark both of these as '1' gatso? and mark all specs as either '11' or '13'

Hi

There is now avaliable the program to create the HEX files on the DS website if needed.

Neil has also given us the following information

Quote:
For everyones info the locations are set out like this:
1 = Gatso
8 = Accident Black spot
9 = Mobile location
10 = Red light camera
12 = Truvelo
11 = SPECS Strart
13 = SPECS end

Location data is broken in to this:
Long/Lat/speed limit/1 = mph 0 = kmph/camera warning type/direction camera is facing

8 = Accident Black spot

we don't have these in our database so doesn't really affect us.

Quote:

11 = SPECS Strart
13 = SPECS end

hmm... we don't have the start and end info for specs just the actual locations so maybe setting specs as 11 will be the best option? or do you need to have a set end point for specs for any reason?

other than the specs issue i have a file format ready fr release with the next full database release (should be tomorrow)

MikeAlder

I must have been having a blonde moment this morning

MaFt

The unit needs to know the start and stop as it calculates the average speed between two points.

I will create a CSV file with 2 SPECs locations but set them both to start points and let you know what happens to the DS. Last time I tried something simaler the unit would not stop alerting until I reset it.

Fortunately I don’t have many SPECs system near where I live. However I’ve driven through a few now, and I’m sure (though I could be mistaken) that some SPECs systems might have an odd number of cameras, such as: A, B, C.

You could therefore have your average speed taken between A to B or between B to C. In this case how does he DS unit cope with the middle camera?

MaFt, the specs start and end works the specs calculator which is one of the genius bits of the DS unit.

Whatever speed you hit the first camera (over the limit) it will speak speed too fast...speed too fast..etc until it allows you the correct exit speed on the second camera.

I know some will say you should drive at the correct speed, unless they constantly drive with "specs" around as we do in the SE, unlit at night and sometimes little in the way of signs, or as on the M25/A2/A20 the signs hidden by large vehicle convoys driving a few feet apart, they won't understand.

The system isn't 100% but normally the cameras have a lead in and one out, or the first in on the motorway and the second out on an exit, and the third still on the motorway but acts as the second out to the first in.
Hope you understand that as i lost myself to.

We as owners gave DS the camera positions with the POI setting on the DS, by pushing buttons and getting the GPS reading on the first and second camera, which we then submit to DS.

You might need a DS unit to play with, so as to understand how it works, I have offered one to pgpsw to borrow but the offer hasn't been taken up yet.

I'm sure that DS users would pay to have the proper database so as to get full use of the unit - i know i would, even if all this used to be free it wasn't always accurate.

I've got a DS Unit so I'll have to get it up and running and see what we can do with the SPECS issue. Can't do it straight away as I don't have a PC with which to update it, on a Mac at the mo as my Vista laptop has just expired Sad

It looks like a taxi meter so you might get waived down, but a great tool, as yet I can't find a replacement.

I know the feeling my laptop has just expired with £7k of coded software on it, great part is it stops me working, so time for posts here until Dell deliver a new one,

Thanks for the information – it makes sense.

Once our experts have determined the different types used by the DS database and how they relate to the types in our database, then I’m sure MaFt would be able to create a PocketGPSWorld camera database that can be used by DS units.

Not sure if you have see this, but the latest on the DS site reads as follows:

Here is the Drivesmart database THIS MUST NOT BE USED FOR PROFIT and if we find out that people are selling this without our permission we will take action against them.
Its the first release of a commercial database that we know of.
Its a CSV file that can be uploaded in the user section of your DS loader program.
If you have Autoroute or other mapping software you can easily over lay and check out all the locations.
If your making ammendments yourself make sure you always have everything running in numerical order,If you don't do that it will error when uploading.
We will also be releasing the DS tools for uploading as a Master Database.
http://www.drive-smart.co.uk/Europe_111006.csv

Drivesmart loader program for making the master database .hex file is here:
http://www.drive-smart.co.uk/DriveSmartLoader-1.4.16_private.exe
You need to connect to the Drivesmart to start with and then put in the CSV file into the main database area.
Clck on write and the DS will produce 2 main.hex files these can then be used as Master Database files .hex files to load via the main database on the normal DS loader program.

For everyones info the locations are set out like this:
1 = Gatso
8 = Accident Black spot
9 = Mobile location
10 = Red light camera
12 = Truvelo
11 = SPECS Strart
13 = SPECS end

Location data is broken in to this:
Long/Lat/speed limit/1 = mph 0 = kmph/camera warning type/direction camera is facing

ok, regarding the specs in and specs out i may be able to adjust the database accordingly but it will take some time to set up and then to locate each specs camera and work out which is the start and end etc.

do you guys want a DS version included with the next release but with the specs marked as say gatso's so at least you have the warning even if you can't use the average speed stuff straight away?

I can only speak for myself but, I know that your database is a lot more accurate then theirs, (I have pgpsw in the Nuvi), particularly now they have stopped input on the forum (from 07th Feb 2007) they won't have the info required to keep it updated, as they relied heavily on the forum members.

As far as the DS unit is concerned if it gives anything less than it does at present, ie "Specs" calculator NOT THERE, i would look to change it, so long term would require that.

Short term i would be ok settling for less providing I knew that the "Specs" were a possibility, in the not too distant future.

Do I take it the "Specs" in and out is going to be complicated, surely they must have the co-ordinates in their schedule, or isn't it as easy as that?

I take it all the original voice messages on the DS would work as normal.
