Well, looks like I'm boycotted too - its their grand scheme in things. To stop any more dissent, don't allow the users to post! That way they can't be slagged off.
Oh well, their loss! _________________ "To Err Is Human - To Really Foul Things Up Requires A Computer! (or SatNav)" |

DS did have removed Gatsos still left in the database, so would take that as normal.
The forum was used by members to submit camera positions, we were not always sure whether they were taken as you could drive past weeks later and had no warning. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Well obviously these are the reactions of a company that is either "on the brink" of going under, or have already got there at Warp 10! Re-opening a forum, just to release an unencrypted database file, and preventing any user from posting. This is their last gasp before the end. _________________ "To Err Is Human - To Really Foul Things Up Requires A Computer! (or SatNav)" |

just out of interest in terms of making a ds-version of the database how does the 'camera type' data get used? do you get a specific warning for the different types? if so then we dont need the full list of types used by ds, so long as we have the right id numbers for the types in the pgpsw database.
i.e.
gatso
truvelo
monitron
specs
temp
mobile
pmobile (prob best to have this same as mobile!)
redlight

Its the first release of a commercial database that we know of.
Its a CSV file that can be uploaded in the user section of your DS loader program.
If you have Autoroute or other mapping software you can easily over lay and check out all the locations.
If your making ammendments yourself make sure you always have everything running in numerical order,If you don't do that it will error when uploading.
We will also be releasing the DS tools for uploading as a Master Database. |
If you read this a couple of times it seems to tell us that they have made this new file, which all of us can get in to and alter, and even add an over lay to check, it evens prompts us to keep it in numerical order or it will fail, as if they are offering us a template for DIY.
The question is for what purpose are they really offering it?
Are they saying that they have offered this free update database for life, but somehow wish to wash their hands of it.
Are they trying to get all of us to modify it, although not sure how you would end up with one copy here to share, or do we all make up our own customised copy to keep and tweak as we choose – but will never be accurate, not that they care.
It doesn’t seem to be the work of a Company going bankrupt, as they wouldn’t have gone to this trouble.
It seems to me they are trying to get out of the database, as it is obviously a great amount of work so they can spend time on other things, being in CSV format makes it easy to access.
Interesting though lets have some input here. _________________ TomTom Go 60

A few points for all concerened:
- All users of the DS forum can not post at this time.
-It is good that DS have released a CSV file so at least we can move forward.
-The file is not a standard CSV type, the reason I could not upload more than a few cameras when I created a database was due to not knowing that they should be in numerical order.
Darren
Have you worked out what the first colum of numbers is used for? They range between -9 and 153
Thanks

The numbers were explained on page one of this thread, the value is the Longitude in degrees where a negative value is west, posative is East. This is why I called it a "Strange" format, you need to join values from column A and B then B and C to get the data needed. Perhaps the quote below explains a little more? - Mike
mikealder wrote: | Longitude; Latitude; Speed; single/ both direction; Type; Heading (where Known)
speed in MPH
Type:
1 = GATSO, Watchman
8 = "Watermark" - unless anyone can add to these?
9 = Mobile
10= Redlight
12 = Truvelo
13 = SPECS
I think this data looks out of date considering the "spot checks" I have tried while validating the categories |
