Does TomTom mapping of Italy cover Venice? I know there are no roads there but it would be wonderful to be able to use TomTom to aid walking around that labyrinthine fantasy.

There are problems even if you have the mapping software!
The area consists of narrow streets and high building so getting a 'fix' from the Satellites is difficult.

The software from Garmin was comprehensive, but using the unit in the narrow streets was restrictive, but the GPS on the boats and wider canals was very interesting. My unit provides me with full tracks on my unit and PC which gives more insight to your visit.

I'm returning there this year!

Yes, TOMTOM Navagator software will help you navagate through Venice. I used A201 w/ TT5 last Fall. I thought that with the narrow streets and multi-level buildings that the signal would be weak, but it was sufficient. You will only need it for the 1st day, or two, until you get familiar with the Island(s). I hindsight, I wouldn't take it as its so easy to use a small paper map provided by the hotels.
