it will not announce the camera type when using the PGPS database and will not perform specs calculations.

I will load the DS with a CSV file with speed limits and let you know what happens

Though my GPS receiver inside it is playing up so are looking at geting the Speed Cheetah GPS mirror

Their database is also free

That's a pity, this is the best part of the DS, i am using the pgpsw database on my Nuvi, but find the "poing" sounds annoying. To avoid keep looking at the screen I prefer the voice explaining camera type and "speed too fast", as for the "Specs" calculator - thats the best part.

Unless I can get that to work, I will have to hope that DS stays alive and the database is genuine.

Hi Guys, I've only just noticed this thread and was unaware of the Drive-Smart problems until now Sad They're only a few miles from me so I'll see if I can elicit any information as to what has happend.

If they have gone under then it's a real shame but sadly nearly inevitable. There simply isn't room in the market for small players and whilst free updates for life makes great advertising it is unsustainable.

On a side not, perhaps we can work towards engineering a DS compatible database if (and only if) they have ceased trading?

Great news, as the Drivesmart is a good "tool" when it is going.
We have all tried to see if they have gone under - but no luck.
Which you success in your Quest.

Hello

To install the Pgps database is easy. You will need to download it in CSV format it is one of their options.

Launch the DS loader program, un der the section speed camera database click the Extra database button.

Locate the PGPS database file.

Click the Write button

Enjoy

PS Still got a Defender 2 left over from my stock.

Hi WLMOATE,

Hope you don't mind but I have used this text in the official installation instructions for DriveSmart users available here: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-drivesmart.php

Cheers

I know that was Wayne alias "mobilehacker". I was posing the question around the jaskel post also as he hadn't replied to the subsequent communication from rushkins etc trying to establish whether he was our Aussie friend. If it is, I don't think he could have forgiven us for our jibes. 8)

Hi guys just had the following message in my email from another DS forum member. I have directed him here so I'm sure you will aid him when he arrives. 8)

Hi Nuttynurse.

I hope you don't mind me emailing you.

Like you I also own a DS, Ive read many of your postings on the old DS forum, but unlike you I didn't write many posts so youve probably never heard of me, my user name was V7Tee.

Anyway I was wondering if you wouldn't mind keeping me posted of anything you hear regarding the elusive DS team including the forum, Ive tried emailing & phoning them but I didn't get any response. At the moment because of work I dont have much time to trawl the web for information & a lack of funds wont allow me a DS replacement.

Thanks in advance, & I hope to hear from you soon, fingers crossed it'll be good news.

All the best from

Pete, V7Tee

Hi all
I too am a DS forum member (Snoopydog) although I did not make that many posts - found it very interesting to read though :D .
Anyway obviously there is not much feedback from the DS team at the moment so are people keeping their DS's or are they going to change them, if changing what, seems to be the model to go far, I am undesided at the moment as I really like my DS but if it becomes unreliable I will probably change it for a Snooper Sapphire (any thoughts on this model anyone) as I have a fitted sat nav in my car.

Their database (Snooper) isn't very good IMHO.

For those wishing to use the PocketGPS database on their DS units I have some bad news Sad

I have tried to load a CSV file to the DS but it crashes the program that is used to load them.

I have created my own CSV file with just one entry, this loads correctly and I can specify camera and speed limit without issue BUT!!

If I specify more than 1 camera in the CSV file the loader program crashes.

The loader program trys to convert the CSV to a HEX file ( the encrypted format) before loading it into the DS. The conversion point is were the program crashes.

I will try a few more formats of the CSV file.

I have tried to ring Neil on his mobile but he does not answer, so I have sent him a text. Lets hope I get a response.

Wayne

PS could we have this post moved to the GPS camera section ?
