Hello all,

I have been experiencing problems with TT6 on my Dell x50v.

Using TT6.010, the Dell would randomly 'crash' back to desktop without any warning or other signs of anything going wrong. It may have been psychological, but the crash (of the Dell that is) only seemed to happen when I was actually moving in the car. What I mean is if I was stationary it would be fine, but as soon as I moved forward, even at walking pace, it would crash unexplainably. There was no error message of any kind and you could just run TT again and it would be fine for a few minutes or 2 hours then crash again.

I have now moved to TT6.030. Even though the Dell x50v is not listed as a compatible device for this version I thought i would try it anyway. The random crashes still occur but now with this version I get an error message. The Dell crashes back to desktop and it says 'Exception. Data Type Misalignment'.

I have previously run TT3 and TT5 on the very same Dell and I never recall either of these versions crashing ever. However TT6 seems to be bugged beyond belief. I was hoping the update to 6.030 would fix the problems but obviously not, although at least an error message is a bit better than nothing. Apart from that, when it works, TT6.030 is much faster and more responsive than TT6.010.

Has anyone else had any problems like this? Please can anyone offer any advice?

One suggestion is to ditch TT and switch to iGO instead!

Although Axim X50v is not on the official support list of TTN6, it is widely reported (including own experience) to work perfectly with TTN6. There is something about your PDA making it unstable. I would suggest hard-reseting your PDA and install TomTom again on a clean PDA. You will then find it works perfectly. After that you can install whatever app you fancy, but keep in mind what you install, in case the TomTom gets unstable again you can pinpoint the culprit.
Oh yeah, make a backup of whatever you want to save from your PDA, the hardreset will remove it all... Wink

Thanks gekko

I'll have a go and try that.

The only other thing I thought of after sending my post was that I used to run TT5 on an SD card. When I went to TT6 I had to install it on to the CF card in the other slot as there was insufficient room on my SD at the time. Maybe the CF card is not quite fast enough or running right on the limit with a processor intensive application like TT? The CF is rated at 80x speed which is fine for OS map e.t.c. but possibly not for TT?

I will have a go at hardresetting and then reinstalling TT on the CF and then on a new SD and see what happens.

Hello all,

I raised this query with TomTom support and received this response.

Quote:
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

May I refer you to the below compatibility list. TomTom are only able to offer support to devices that are compatible for use with the Navigator 6 software. I regret to inform you that the Dell Axim x50v is not compatible for use with Navigator 6.

So is that it then?

I have hardreset the PDA and installed nothing but TT6 onto an SD card and then a CF card and it makes no difference. The program still crashes randomly. All I have to do is clear the error message and rerun TT and the program reconnects to the GPS instantly and the pre-programmed route is still there. The PDA carries on from where it stopped as though nothing has happened. It can crash again 5 seconds or 2 hours later exactly the same. It is extremely irritating and is the only problem I have ever had with the Dell x50v in 18 months of ownership. (As long as you keep it on WM2003 that is...........................)

Moving to iGO is becoming more of an attractive proposition. The other option is to buy another device to run TT on but my favourite at the moment is the E-TEN X500 Glofiish and that isn't on the TT compatibility list either.

You ARE running on WM2003SE, right?

There are plenty of people running the X50v + TomTom 6 combination wihtout any problems whatsoever. Could it be some problem with your unit or your memory cards?

Yes I am running WM2003SE.

TT6 is the only application I have had a problem with. TT5, TT3, iGo, R66 and Memory Map OS have all run from the same cards with no problems.

I generally keep Memory Map + Maps on one card (usually CF) and one navigation package with maps on the other card (usually SD).

Remove your iGo application entirely.

There are reports of this interfering with TT6 on some machines.

Hard reset and ONLY install TT6 - nothing fancy - install the application to main memory and the maps to your SD card. If it still doesn't work then you can see why it's not on the supported list.

Is your X50 upto the latest firmware? This could (of course) be the reason for the problem or fix the problem - who knows Wink

If you are still having problems - look at getting a stand alone nav unit

iGO is not presently installed. The only other app currently on the PDA CF card is Memory Map.

I will try a hardreset again and install V6.010 with V660.1219 map and see what happens.

The WM2003SE ROM is version A05 from Dell. This was the roll-back version to go back from WM5 to WM2003SE. As far as I know this is still the latest WM2003SE version.

I suggest you put TTN6.030(8320) in main memory. With this version TT sees both the SD and CF maps which earlier versions didn't. Voices, raster and postcodes go on cards too.

Not experienced any problems, though I can make it crash by running LingoSoft translator directly before running TT. Knowing that is my problem, I soft reset after running translator and all is fine.

Good luck

Hello all

I have tried all the suggestions in this thread to no avail!

There is obviously something odd with my Dell and neither TTN6.010 or 6.030 work. What is interesting is that both these versions run for about 33 minutes then crash. After that they will crash every few seconds or a few minutes at random and I do get an occasional obscure Bluetooth error message.

I am also using the Liz Whittaker add-on voices for all directions and speedcam warnings. Whether this is related to my problems or not I don't know but I have noticed that all mobile camera warnings say for example 'Warning, mobile camera ahead, speed limit fif'. The 'ty miles an hour' is always chopped off the end of the sentence. This is the same for all mobile camera warnings but Gatsos are fine. I am using the OGG file versions of these warnings.

I have now reverted back to TTN5.2 and everything works perfectly. This is the very same Dell with the same SD card and including the very same OGG files and the application has never crashed once. All spoken alerts including mobile speedcams play fully right to the end of the sentence.

TomTom still assure me the Dell X50v is not compatible with TTN6 and I am tempted to agree with them. How you chaps have got it working is beyond me but for now I am sticking with TTN5. I will get a new device soon, probably an E-TEN X500 which is sold with TTN6 but TomTom still do not list this as a compatible device. They refused to elaborate on this when questioned. As the X500 is not listed, TomTom will refuse to offer any support as with the Dell X50v for TTN6 so we are up the creek if anything goes wrong with the installation on that device!

Well then it's official, you are the first person I have ever heard of not being able to run TT6 on your Axim X50v. I still lean towards that there is something "wrong" with your axim, since "everybode else" runs TT6 on it just fine. Anyway, the changes from TT5 to TT6 are subtle, so I'm sure you'll cope just fine with TT5. Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

What happened when you did the 'bog-standard' 6.010 install without any additional voices etc. ?

Also you mentioned reverting from WM5 to WM2003SE (firmware A05). You didn't reload anything from a backup after this did you? This could cause the registry to have incorrect entries in it and cause unpredictable results.

Exactly the same thing happened with a bog standard install i.e. run for about 30 minutes then consistently crash at random times. I didn't have any POIs, voices or schemes installed. TT6.010 just dumps back to the 'Today' screen whereas 6.030 does at least have the decency to give an error message 'Memory Exception - Data Type Misalignment'.

No when I reverted back to A05 WM2003SE I didn't restore anything from a backup. I frequently do a hard reset to the PDA and reload everything I need from scratch.

Is it possible to run the TT6 map (V6.6??) under TTN5 application? I notice TT's website have a V6.6 map for sale under the TTN5 add-ons. This file is a 240MB download and would therefore possibly be the very same map I purchased along with TTN6.

It is the same mapping product. V6 is 'given away' with the V660 maps for supported devices Wink . So you should be able to load them under TT5.xx
