Trying to decide between 360 and TT One. See Nuvis have chipset/antenna in tab that "must" be flipped to horizontal.

This is OK in cars, but must I also do it for pedestrian use?

Saw in another thread on satellite acquisition that Swing mentioned position of anenna tab.

If not obvious already, this will be my first GPS ever.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, The GPS aerial needs to be deployed to enable it, however you can use it when only slightly deployed, it certainly doesn't need to be at 90 deg to the body of the device - Mike

Some people try to use the Nuvi with the antenna angled nearly vertically - this certainly isn't the best position for it, and horizontal is the best (given the aerial the best view of the whole sky), but it doesn't need to be perfectly level. Whilst walking it's probably not a problem at all, although something to be aware of.

Walking around places like Paris I just stick the Nuvi in my shirt pocket with the aerial open( that normaly means vertical) when I need it. It seems to hold the signal quite well, other wise you end up waiting for it to find the satellites to know where it is.

Great idea. I had been wondering about this point. I had better make sure unit fits my pocket, or take a suitable fanny-pack or belt-case to keep unit on. Of course, it probably will burn through battery in little time, I expect.

Have read elsewhere about turning backlighting off and so on to conserve power.

Thanks to all.

I get about 4 hours total with the backlight on and sound off when walking.
And just a note - "fanny" has a different meaning here Embarassed

Indeed - although the Nuvi 3x0 range are likely to fit easily in your shirt pocket, you may well find the 660 is way too big to fit.
