Hi all,

I am very new to the GPS seen and I recently purchased the Sony NV-U50. (Got it for £99 brand new).

At the moment I have it stuck in the front windscreen of my Volvo S60. I have a few quick questions:

I am looking to mount it on my dashboard instead so it will look a bit neater. To do this I will need an external GPS antenna. Now the official sony solution is the VCA-41 that is pretty expensive (£35).

Is the plug on my sony unit universal?? Can I use any other make of antenna?

Secondly when it says External Antenna I take it that it means outside of the car. What do people generally do with the cable (Just hang it out the window or what?). Is there not an internal solution for the top of the windscreen or something like that?

Thirdly I really want to mount it on my dashboard as opposed to using the suction cup on the window. Are there any good websites for some attachment methods or kits ?? I know Brodit do Volvo S60 kits but again they are quite expensive.

Your help is much appreciated

Regards

Not quite sure why you think you need an external gps antenna in that situation? I've run along with mine inside the cubbyhole thing built into my car so I can't see it and it can't see the sky at all, and it gets signals just fine.

Yeah it was my fault. I did not realise it took longer to obtain a GPS lock if you switch off using the bottom on/off switch
