TT One Regional suction problem

I've had my TT One for a couple of months and lately with the cold weather I've started to find that the suction cup doesn't hold the TT to the windscreen for more than a few seconds sometimes. I think the problem is to do with when you stick it to a cold windscreen and then the heater blows hot air onto it, it falls off! On Friday it fell off no less than 7-8 times initially before finally sticking firmly for a 6 hour journey. Has anyone else had this problem?

The best advice is to ensure the screen is clean. If you have a surgical wipe or similar give the glass a good wipe.

Also keeping the suction mount warm helps so keep it in the house rather than the car to prevent it from getting cold. If it's cold the rubber sucker becomes more rigid and less able to mould to the glass and achieve good suction.

Firstly make sure the actual surface of the suction cup is clean (computer screen wipes help here, they are also good for removing traces of the mount from the screen), it also helps if the mount is warm, then the plastic is more supple to adopt to the screen curvature.
As you sugest applying the mount to a cold screen isn't the best solution and as yet its not been that cold, try keeping the mount in the house that way at least it will be warm when applied to the cold screen, a little moisture will also help preserve the vacuum that holds it in place - Mike

Thanks for the replies. I will try out what you have suggested.

Just for everyone's info, I also sent an email to Tom Tom to complain about what I think is a dangerous design (bearing in mind that the previous version on the ONE doesn't seem to suffer from this). Anyway, they sent me back an email saying they will send me out a replacement suction mount! Could this mean there is a design flaw? They certainly didn't say why they are sending me a new one.

I've not heard any generic problems with the mount for the One, but there WERE big problems with tthe mount for the x10 series.
TomTom are so used to sending out replacements for those now, that they probably just do it without thinking!

The ONE v2 had a completely new suction cup design with flared plastic wings over the sucker and no locking collar or lever. All reports until now have been very positive about this design and I have never heard of any other complaints.

Either you are the first to spot an issue or as is more likely, TomTom as Andy has said simply send out replacements as a first action drill due to the huge numbers of issues with the GO and GO x10 mounts! Although the issues there were not with the suction cup but rather the mount itself which 'drooped' under the weight of the GO.

Hi

Anyone tried the alternative mount kit yet? Plenty of options but I'm not sure the vent mount would be very secure!
