At the top of the download page it says

Version 4.104 25 Oct 2006

The previous version says

Version 4.102 10 Oct 2006

So you can tell if there is a new version out or not, and there is a "read me" file in the download, with the version number too. When you update the database, If you use the same type of file, like "Single file all cameras", when you update the file, your PDA will tell you, you already have a file with that name on your PDA, (The old database), so click YES, and the old database will be replaced with the new one. (Have you read the "Stickie" at the top of the ViaMichelin Forum)
The database is usually updated about the end of the month, but there is no set date, just when it is ready. The last two months, we have had an update in the middle of the month as well as at the end.

Has anyone else checked the content of the recent viaMichelin files?

As far as I can tell, the actual content of each of the five files within 4.104, 4.102 and 4.084 (the August release) are all identical.

Moreover, the number of cameras in each does not square with the numbers indicated on the speed camera home page.

I've reported it on another thread somewhere, but had no response yet.

Could someone else check, please? I might be doing something wrong but can't think what.

Bob

OK folk - forget that last request. I have now had confirmation that there is indeed 'a problem' with the viaMichelin version of the database.

Problem with the database? This seems to ring a bell.

There are new specs cameras nearby, and they appear on the map situated under the camera download area, but despite downloading all of the updates for Viamichelin (consolidated) they do not appear on Mapstore or RZ1710.

Is this part of the problem of have I missed something? :o

It sounds similar, at least.

Have you tried the workaround in that link, petef? (Use the 'other' database.)

It worked fine for me.

You can use the database from this website http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

Have you tried following the excellent instructions provided by elan2s on the fifth posting on the first page of this thread?

Sad

Hello. I am using ViaMichelin v3.5 (MapStore) on the Laptop and v3.2 on my PDA (HP iPaq HW6515).

I downloaded the latest database files off the website.

I was following your instructions on this site but get into a problem.

On the POI Manager, I select all the files and categories etc, but when trying to sync with the PDA, it displays the following message and I get no further: " The POI file could not be transfered onto your PDA. "

Any ideas? Sad

Sounds like an ActiveSync problem. Are you trying to transfer the files to the PDA memory or a memory card. If it is the former is there enough space? If the later is their a) ebough space or b)is the card write protected?

Other than that I can't think of a reason for it not working.

Cheers for your reply.

Problem sorted Smile

I reinstalled ActiveSync and ViaMichelin (on the Laptop) and the installation instructions worked fine Smile

Thanks for your help anyway.

One last thing... are all the speed camera icons (gatso, truvelo etc) supposed to be the same (mine all are)?

Depends by what you as "the same". If you have used the same graphic for each category then yes they will all appear the same. If you have not then it sounds as if you have only loaded one set of data.

If you want to change the graphics used then you have to delete the file associated with the category first. The easiest (only?) way to do this is to delete the file(s) in c:/programs/viamichelin/mapsonic. They are all .poi so should be easy to find. You can then change the graphic to the one you want from within Mapstore (Edit/Types of POI/Modify) and then go through the add POI process again. When you synchronise it will copy over the new logos to the pda
