Hi,

The brother has a Mio 168.

He recently had to send the unit back after the power / data socket at the bottom of the machine broke (Looks very flimsy, I will stick with the Dell Axim where you can knock the cable in with a sledgehammer and not damage the socket Smile ).

Now the cig lighter to PDA cable has broke.

So I have suggested a car mount (I use the Seidio 2500 for the dell). The idea being that he can remove the Mio still in the Mount reducing the amount of times that the socket is used.

So I am looking for suggestions (especially from previous / current owners of such items).

Car Mount.
Must include...
Power cable plugging into mount and not the Mio (Is this whats called passive)
Prefer...
Power Speaker.
Dashboard Mount - Don't mind a couple of screw holes,
Standard plug / 12v - So a hardwire can be bought / made at a later date removing the use of the cig lighter.
Hoping to avoid...
windscreen mount. Vehicle was recently broke into probably as sucker mount was left in vehicle. (how lucky is he Smile )

Replacement Cig Lighter to Mio Cable
Will still be looking at replacing the standard car power cable as Mio is sometimes used whilst passenger in other cars.

TIA

I have been using the brodit mount for some time without any problems. It doesn't have a speaker, but to be honest, the built-in one has been adequate - I don't have it at maximum - even in a diesel car.

As for the connectors:
I can't comment on all brands (or any in particular), but I understand that many units need less than the 12v provided by the car, and that without the circuitry provided by the unit, your satnav would fry. Sometimes this is contained within the plug itself - so if you buy one of this type - cutting it off and then hard wiring it, would not be a good idea.
