I also started experiencing this problem after upgrading using TomTom Home.

My ONE was received by the TomTom repair centre in Holland on the 12 Oct according to UPS.

However I have not heard a single thing from TomTom. I just rang them to find out where my ONE has been for a month and they tell me it has now been sent to a dirfferent repair centre in Scotland !!

I asked why they have recorded it as a Speaker defect and they said "thats what you told us"

I said "NO, i didn't - I said the speaker works fine as it plays the drum sounds, it just doesn't give voice/alarts unless i use the headphones....and it worked fine before the software upgrade !!"

They said" ooops, in that case we've tested it for the wrong thing"

NOTE TO SELF: Don't buy TomTom products again, their support is shite !!

I'm waiting for the return of another unit before I send off my One with similar problem to yours.

They reckon it's something to do with the speaker not receiving the voices properly.

The drums roll OK even without an SD card in so I can sort of see where they're coming from as the flash memory is obviously sending a signal but the SD card ain't.

Yeah but at the end of the day what tomtom doesn't seem to unerstand is that the speaker connected by 2 bits of wire and an electrical signal. If it can make a drum sound then it works...

whats changed is that the software driving the processor.... therefore there must be something wrong with that software.

Welcome to the Silent One club.

As I say, when (eventually) I get my other unit back, I'll be sending mine off to Holland for sorting out.

What a bu**er!

I've got a similar problem but am loathe to get UPS to collect it till my other one comes back so wouldn't be surprised if they don't cancel my request as it's over 3 weeks since they set the DER up.

I Had a similar problem with my TOMTOM ONE i tried all the above methods of getting my voices back. Needless to say none of the worked.

here is a brief description of the Symptons

Start up drums = Heard
Voice from speaker = Not Heard
Voice from Headphones = Heard

After multiple resets and factory restores i finaly installed the TOMTOM Home software and updated the firmware.

The firmware is available here :

http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17

Now i can hear my Voices again though the speakers. and ive got the nice new sparkely interface.

hope this helps anyone with this problem. It worked for me.

I took a backup of the TOMTOM before upgrading the firmware just in case something went wrong.

Do a windows explorer backup before doing anything, NOT a TomTom HOME backup.
