That's great, but what it doesn't show is how it's spliced in to the TMC reciever itself.

I have one of these and as yet not tried a long journey but left Tom Tom on in the car outside for 2 hours and nothing - just has a greyed out circle and says No Info Available - no indication that it is trying to tune in to anything.

What should I be seeing or does this just indicate that there is no reception? (I have updated to latest version for 910 and no difference).

It would be a help to know what to expect as at the moment I havnt a clue!

A grey circle means it recognises the connection to the TMC device but it can't even find a station to lock onto, let alone the correct one (ClassicFM).

Tap the screen then tap on TomTom Traffic. This screen will tell you what, if any, station you are connected to. Try selecting the UK as your country, as opposed to the strongest signal.

Ensure that the TMC module has the cable stretched out, not coiled up.

I took mine in home and dangled the TMC bit out the window, set it to strongest signal and left it. Every now and then it'd then show frequency and RDS name of the station it was glued too but only when in the traffic menu. Even when it did find Classic FM no data was found Sad

I don't think it is - there's no mention of modifying the TT TMC receiver itself.. in fact he says he didn't use it on a TT - "There was little point connecting the TomTom Go-910 as it seldom drops below full reception strength!" - definately not talking about TMC here!!!

(damn this forum needs an edit function..)

Later on he talks about connecting an aerial to a TMC receiver, but it is definately *not* a tomtom one - "Then you simply plug the new cable into the TMC unit, switch on and wait to achieve a signal lock". There's nowhere to plug an external aerial in the TT TMC..

Yes, you only get to know what you're connected to on the Traffic screen.

The actual quote you guys are refering to is with respect to the GPS aerial that is also fitted within the Hirschman unit, the GPS reception on a Go-910 is nothing short of perfection, I only want to point out this basic miss quote as it is out of context with respect to this thread - Mike

Does anyone have one to hand? If so could they measure the wire from jack plug to the TMC unit please. If TT have done their homework it should be around 9ft which will be tuned to around 100MHz...

From where the cable enters the receiver to where it is soldered to the jack plug is 63"

Thanks, that sounds a tad short to me. On another forum someone changed from an AA navigator to Garmin 660 and was disapointed in its TMC performance. He compared the antenna's, the AA's was 9ft long and the Garmin's around 7. He extended the Garmin by 2feet and it sprung in to life. I'll be looking in to extending ours tomorrow!

If you find a supplier of the strange plug fitted to the end of the cable please let me know! - breaking into the device will invalidate any waranty etc, I appreciate the waranty is pointing out the obvious but you could damage the unit beyond repair (someone did just this on another TT forum recently, dislodging components off the PCB). Cutting the cable is not a good idea either as it contains more than one wire Wink - Mike

I think he attacked the unit with a hammer in the end. That probably invalidates the guarantee too! Laughing Laughing
