I see that TT6 (with the 660.1199 UK map) has some idea about the speed limit in force on the road.

Generally quite accurate, even where a 60-50-40 sequence only has 50mph for a few 100 yards, TT6 will show it.

That said, the actual/limit speed display is very small. When you speed, TT6 displays red text on blue background which isn't half difficult to read!

2 questions -

1) Can you define what 'speeding' is? I'd like to set the ACPO guide of 10% + 2mph? TT6 seems more conservative.
2) Can a warning chime be added to the change in colour to give warning to back off?

Speeding is when you exceed the limit of the road that is in force at the time, the data within TomTom will not be accurate and should not be relied upon. Use the road signs to check the speed.

As for a chime adding to the speeding notification, if they ever do that I hope you could select it to be Off, if it were on all the time it would drive you up the wall when the speed data is wrong - Mike

amcluesent, I'm glad you are happy with this feature of TT6. In other parts of Europe the speed limit in the maps are WAY(!) off making this feature absolutely useless. In my area I would guess that it is wrong about 95% of the time.
The feature you should be asking for is how to turn OFF the speed warning and only show actual speed like in TT5. Wink

I, too, am extremely disappointed with the apparently poor quality of the speed data. It is certainly unreliable as a primary source of information, and even as a backup to the road signs it is decidedly iffy much of the time.

I ignore it and don't trust it at all, unless I see a sign confirming the info... Crying or Very sad

A friend of mine has iGo and you can set the level to rigger a 'speeding' spoken warning. Very neat - but there are some real problems with the data quality (iGo and TT6 share the same map suppliers for UK at least). e.g. at about J36 M6 going northwards it suddenly thinks the speed limit is 50mph - spoken warning get very annoying then..

As Mike said - you are meant to use your eyes! I can't see a nav device warning (or lack of) standing up in court.

The speed limit warning in TT6 is, IMHO, like the scamera location database from this web-site. Useful in the battle of the motorist against the taxman, but you can still be caught out if you treated it as gospel. But 'every little helps' in avoiding a £60 tax bill.
