Sorry if this has been covered before, I know what it is like dealling with the same Q's day in day out from Newbies.

I have read a couple of threads that imply that camera locations with speeds will be possible using CheckPOI in the future. In the mean time are there any other POI programs that can do this now with PocketGPS's existing database?

I don't mind paying, would just prefer that next level of warning.

Whilst I understand and agree with the argument about observation skills and knowing the speed that you (Ahem) should be doing it is the little, unknown locations on those roads you don't know that catch you out.

Oh, PS, Ipaq 2210 with Rikaline CF GPS and Tomtom2

Thanks

Chris

At the moment, the released version of the PocketGPS database doesn't contain speed limit information.

I believe that the information is gradually being added to the database the team use to generate POI file as people submit information that contains speed limits for cameras - but that there's not yet enough cameras with speed limit information to make this that useful. For that reason, my understanding is that people resubmitting existing cameras with speed limit information is welcomed - though make sure you're using CheckPOInt 2.0.2 and not version 3, as version 3 doesn't note down the speed limit you recorded in the CheckPOInt.ov2 file.

The issue isn't the program - CheckPOInt is more than capable of using speed limit information if the POI files are split up by speed limit.

I think there's also an issue of time here - the Pocket GPS team have been incredibly busy.

If you're prepared to pay, I believe the Trafcam database supports both direction of approach (so it won't alert you for cameras in the other direction - I believe this applies to the TomTom Navigator version as well as the standalone version) and speed limits - though it would be wise to check first. There's a significant annual cost to use Trafcam, however (currently 79 pounds per year). If you're interested, check them out at http://www.trafcam.com.

Trafcam is £79 for the first year and £49 renewal thereafter.

They seem to have lost the plot leately and instead of deveolping code which is uniform across all platforms, they seem to be develope bits of code for one program and then bolt it on about 6 months later for the other platforms.

Speeds: No, the legal road speed at which the camera is set at e.g. 30 mph is not recorded or displayed. You can view your speed, set your upper limit e.g. 75 mph on the motorway or very usefully they have a round up facility so at 71, you can set it to 80.

Database was not being kept up to date, but that was because of a fire at their premises. Hopefully the fortnightly updates are returning.

Personally, High Mileage town drivers are where this is at, but it still misses a motorway mode .....
