Hi all,

I read recently that Garmin will be launching the new Nuvi 660 this month [September 2006] but there is no sign of it yet, so I was just wondering if anyone has any definitive news on when it will actually be released in Europe?

Sept? Hardly so.

I expect it in mid-late October.

What I actually wrote was I had read that it was to be released in September. It isn't my assumption, I am merely relating what I read on the Garmin site.

October might be a good guess but will it have V9 when it is released?

I think we can only gues about V9. Lets keep our fingers cross. Chances are much higher then zero.

From the past 3-5 year experience, I expect Garmin will be 1-2 month late with the real product (compared to what we see announced.)

Thanks mate. As you say fingers crossed.

It is though frustrating to know that other GPS companies have these new maps available to the public as of right now and that Garmin is so slow about such things.

I fully agree.
It is hard to be very quick and flexible, when you are BIG.
And GARMIN is.
Just look how many different mapping products they have. Not like some of their rivals with 3-4 models only.

If you are looking for East Europe - GARMIN has it already available, for quite some time, on a separate pre-programmed SD cards

Is the speaker/volume better on the Nuvi 660 than the 360?

I found the volume wasn't loud enough on the 360.

I haven't tried the 360 but bought the 660 yesterday and find the volume to be more than sufficient - even with a 4 litre Jeep underneath it!

Thanks sounds good - when you have given it a go can you let us know how you get on with traffic reception?

Thanks

hmmm..drove into Manchester city centre this morning with it and received no warnings. I'm not sure exactly *how* I should be warned but nothing happened by default! Will read the user guide (which funnily enough, the hardcopy version of which, came in every language except English!)

Will post back here when I've sussed out whether its the unit or me.

Hi all, after 4 months of battling with the 310D, I finally had enough of the traffic failing when i needed the most (ie Friday night approaching the M25).

Took it back to Halfords this weekend and traded it in for a 660 (straight swap as they cost the same as the 310D was in price). A much better product, the widescreen makes the graphics seem far less cluttered and slightly crisper, and the refresh appears to have improved also. TTS is relatively good, not quite as natural as the TT 910, but an improvement over the harsh sounding 310 voice.

Most importantly, the GTM21 seems to be a massive improvement over the GTM12, so far i've been around the south east of the country and up to Nottingham, haven't lost a signal once (as far as I know). Also the amount of traffic information i've been recieving is double that of the GTM12, implying a stronger signal.

As i originally said, I bought the 310D in July so quite some time ago. Halfords did not put up a fight at all when i asked for an exchange, possibly have experienced a few returns, so my advice for anyone who has a 310D and is disatisfied with it, go back to the retailer, and get a free upgrade for a superior product Smile

Or, of course, get the fixed car charger, and stay with the current model...

Which is what I'll be doing, as I didn't pay anywhere near £399 (nor did I buy it from Halfords), so the 660 at £399 is still more money than I have spent.

Fair enough in your case, when I bought the 310D, it was a Halfords exclusive and the 399 price was good value....so my suggestion is aimed at those in a similar situation...
