I've read on the other website that in v6.51;

"It's no longer possible to manage the POI's of the TomTom Safety camera warnings. The icons from these POI categories are now always displayed and can no longer be disabled. Apart from this, there's also only one warning noise to alert for upcoming safety cameras left anymore"

- Can anyone tell me which warning noise is the one available? And whether it's possible to load them all back again.

"Finally, the warning distance for safety cameras has been set at 500 meter, and this also cannot be changed anymore. Especially in the city, this is very annoying. The PND beeps almost continuously in some cases because lots of cities are filled to the brim with safety cameras"

- Any way of changing the warning distance?

"TMC, short for Traffic Message Channel, contains information about traffic jams, road works, driving conditions and in some cases also mobile speed cameras. This information is transmitted for free via several FM radio stations. The TMC antenna accessory which will become available later this month is essentially nothing more than an FM aerial"

- Is the aerial available to buy yet?

- Will the traffic information via the radio stations be the same or better than the current TomTom Traffic via mobile phone?

- How many FM stations broadcast this Traffic information in the UK? Is it a matter of the more stations available the better the traffic info will be?

Thanks.

Positive spin from TomTom's website:

What's new in 6.51?

Support for the TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver for Europe.

Safety Cameras - it's now easier to manage your Safety Cameras. Safety Cameras have been removed from the list of POIs. To enable or disable Safety Camera warnings, tap these buttons from the Main Menu: TomTom PLUS services - Safety Cameras - Enable|Disable warnings. The list of POIs is also easier to use, as it no longer has lots of entries for Safety Cameras.

Seems I now have 6.51 on my 510 and TT are continuing to give with one hand (TMC) and take away with another (camera warning customisation).

The cameras aren't POIs any more so there's no facility to modify the sound associated with them or the warning distance. I prefer the PocketGPS ones anyway so I've turned the TT+ ones off.

As for TMC - after the free trial I'm planning to hold out for this mythical device instead of using GPRS. However for my level of usage, a 4MB allowance from Orange at £4 per month is adequate so this saving will take 20 months to pay back the rumoured £80 price tag - I'm not sure its worth it.

Only the BBC local stations reliably broadcast RDS travel information and there's loads of those across the country. Whether this is the same as them broadcasting data that the TomTom can use I don't know. Like many others I'm holding back on a Plus subscription while the full details become clear.

I thought ver 6.51 was for the TT ONE not the GO510. Surely the latest version for the GO510 is 6.11?

6.51 slipped onto my 510 without me noticing Embarassed but it really is there and so far it does seem OK. Not sure what the other improvements (beyond those listed above) are supposed to be, but it now powers-on as soon as it hits a live screen mount which I like.

Shame it still has the nannying speed display and that I can't hang up a call with one touch on the remote...

The only reason the list was long is that some bright spark at TomTom decided they would bundle all of Europe’s cameras as well. I never drive in Europe and don't want them thank you very much, so I never installed them.

Not strictly true. I found that you can still use the ones that Lutz Bendlin produced but you cannot assign the various announcements. So the 30MPH ones work just fine but the 40MPHs give the credits.

I wonder if the source could be changed around so they are correct.

OK, I've updated to 6.510 (7590) and have downloaded the 7590_new.data.chk but it still plays the blasted bell, cow and cuckoo (nice TT joke that). Does the new version mean we can't configure the "Warning GATSO" voices anymore?

I've never used the TT warnings as the ones on here are much better.

If I'm stuck with the stupid sounds can I restore from my backup which I made before updating it then refuse all further updates or is there a way of hacking the eprom?

Well, as you were.

I was doing everything whilst still docked and connected through HOME - what a 'useful' piece of software.

Because I couldn't get it to work I restored to the original but it showed a much earlier and incorrect version in HOME. I also still had the stupid sounds even though I restored the 'working' version.

I took it off the cradle to show my wife and it worked perfectly and showed the correct version.

Sooooo, I redocked it, restored to the new version, downloaded and copied in the latest data.chk and got the stupid sounds. Undocked it and everything worked perfectly - correct sounds, correct version and correct time.

Version 6.510(7590) working perfectly correctly until you dock it.

So do you mean that 40MPH, 50MPH etc are all correct, because as I said:

Quote:
the 30MPH ones work just fine but the 40MPHs give the credits

And I can't find a way of setting the incorrect ones.

Yep, using the downloaded version 6.510 (7590) data.chk produced all the correct sounds when I choose Beeps, Bells, Cow etc etc.

I get the following:-

Beep 1 - Gatso
Beep 2 - Gatso 30
Beep 3 - Gatso 40
Beep 4 - Gatso 50
Beep 5 - Gatso 60
Bell 1 - Mobile
Bell 2 - Mobile 30
Bell 3 - Mobile 40
Boing - Mobile 50
Bugle - Mobile 60
Cow - Mobile 70
Cuckoo - Red Light
Polite 1 - Specs
Polite 2 - Temporary
Polite 3 - Credits

What sounds do you get when you go through the selections above?

I think this is my bad.

I'm using TT Safety Cameras and I guess you are using ones from this site. With the TT ones they are no longer POIs so you cannot change the associated sounds.

Does that sound right?

Sounds right. I've never used the TT ones as I prefer the ones from here.
