Right, I haven’t been on here for a while so first question I'd be grateful for answering is whether I should upgrade to a newer version or not? I have 2.7 currently and was put off upgrading before.

Also, does anybody know where to get ‘pub custom points’ from? I can't find them on my system and they're not on another load I downloaded.

Thanks in advance for anybodies help!

It's more when people say we'll meet up by the Red Lion or whatever and I have no clue where it is!

Any news on those updates?

why dont you do a massive pub crawl and mark down the locations of each and send to MaFt for him to include them in the poi database...

Hope you've got plenty of space for POI, see stats below about number of pubs in UK!

Number of public houses in the UK
Year Number % change
2001 59,558 negligible
2002 57,965 -3%
2003 58,788 +1%
2004 59,673 +2%
2005 59,912 negligible
2006 60,331 +1%
Source: MBD analysis of data from the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and trade estimates

Best I've found is on POIHandler.com which lists just over 4000 pubs.

I would love a list of pubs. When in an unfamilar area (e.g. away on Holiday) could find a decent pub.

As to drink-n-drive argument, myself and my wife share the driving.

I drive there, she drives back....

ok, you might have a poi of some pubs in holiday area for instance ,but how do know that its a good one....surely the best part of a holiday is to visit pubs you come across on your travels....

How about we compile a pub database like the speed camera database where each poi has some letters after it representing Food, Ale, Toilets, Lodging and an average 0-0 score

E.g. The Pond: A9 T - saying they have an excellent range of ales and toilets

I'd really like to see a web app for a collaborative database of POI such as this

good idea mate but most pubs do food now, dont know about the ale cos i drink lager..all pubs have toilets..lodging a good idea..one persons opinion about a pub might be different to someone elses , ie a smoker might enjoy a smoky ambience where-as a non-smoker will not...

Zogman,

Agree that "surely the best part of a holiday is to visit pubs you come across on your travels....", however AA make a nice living out of publishing such guides...

I do use such a beast myself, however if it were POI based, would be a lot easier to tap into.
