Hi there,

I've had my 910 for a few weeks - it's an amazing bit of kit but the speaker is not very good when on the motoreway.

Is there a way to hard wire the 910 so i can listed to mu 910 via the car's speakers?

thanks

If you have an aux port you can run that direct to the 910 mount, or if you dont have an aux mount you can always buy a fm modulator (however these are currently illigal but with changes afoot) ebay is the best place for these.

There is another way which is to use an FM Injection unit, this connects into the radio aerial lead and routes the audio straight into the cars audio unit, as it disconnects the aerial it is not transmitting as such, there is a legal statement (of sorts) on the Maplin web site have a look at THIS for more information, works well with my 910 and Kenwood head unit - Mike

theres actually an even easier and cheaper way of doing this and is what I do. I bought an "FM transmitter" from ebay for about £5 delivered and plug this into my 910. the audio is sent via fm frequency to your stereo , all you need to do is tune it in on your radio and thats it. Sound isnt bad at all ! Heres a link to what I mean ..

BUT the use of these devices within the UK is illegal as they are transmitting within a frequency band that requires a license - Mike

I don't doubt that you can purchase these devices in the UK or via E-bay BUT the simple fact remains they are illegal to use, the stupid part about the situation is that it is legal to purchase/ sell this device but then illegal to use it - someone care to try and explain that one! - Mike

Here in the US, those FM modulators are completely legal. So that's the easiest way to do it. Available anywhere, Radio Shack and probably CVS...Laughing Out Loud.

Another way, would work for drivers who have built-in DVD entertainment systems for the kids. Most have audio/video inputs for PS2 or other video games....the 910 could hook up to those audio inputs using a simple adapter cable, stereo minijack to RCA L/R.

Also, if you have a car with built-in Bluetooth...you're all set from the get-go. And if not, you can get aftermarket Bluetooth installed and connected to your car audio system....ask a high-end car audio dealer.

Also, many very cool car head units have an audio input...check yours!

Finally, does anyone out there have any experience with the kit that TomTom sells, to achieve this exact purpose?

The tomtom kit isn't available for the 910 yet but an adapted 700 kit works quite well (except the audio connector on my mount is a bit flaky.. no surprise there.. it's an x10 mount.. nuff said..).

They're coming up with the bluetooth adapter to do the same thing which sounds quite nice.. bit too expensive for my tastes though. No release date the last I heard.

Ah Thanks! I will try that. I was on my way to work and didn't have a chance to figure it out, but I did listen to my music nicely.
