Ahh right.. I wondered what iGO / Mio Map 3 TMC looked like, thats all Smile

Noone got a C510 or C710 yet then?

http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/mio-c510e-europe-uk-and-ireland-pre-loaded-description.html

Have them in stock.. I'm holding off buying one because I really would like to know if this handles roundabouts the same way as iGO (IE not very well).

iGO would warn you of an approaching roundabout, but wouldn't tell you (IE give you an audible warning of) which exit you needed until you were on top of it. It'd be nice not to have to look at the screen in certain situations. Smile It was mentioned in the review.

From review:
Code:
"...The second exception is the guidance upon approaching a roundabout (rotary/traffic circle).

Voice  instructions are given 800, 300 and 100 metres prior, but only the very last one tells you which exit to take. "

good point sorry i forgot that bit paul it would be nice to have a full instuction at 300 meters personally i usually glance the screen just after the first instruction at 800 meters not perfect but an easy woraround for me as usually the unit is in my peripheral vision

You can edit the announcement yourself while you wait for an update...

Find the roundabout announcements at the distance you want notifying, and tag the 'exit' announcement on the end before the last quote and comma (",)

eg.

,"800[equal,minsilence=10,if_not_1]","prepare_to enter roundabout in %dist and take %exit exit",

It has worked on a freind of mine's copy..

Sorry.... should have said...

First up, back up your chosen voice zip file.
Then you'll need to unzip your chosen voice zip file.
In the 'config' folder open your chosen 'commands.csv' (ft yds etc) in notepad then procede as previously mentioned.
Save this updated .csv file in config folder.
Re zip up the audio and config folders together with the flag bmp and info.txt.
Be sure these are NOT in a 'v_eng_uk_f1' root folder in the new zip file.
copy this new zip file to \iGO\voice on your card overwriting the older one.

Sorry about that

Excellent, thanks for the find. Pity I can't test this here in the US... But this could probably also be used to create another announcement immediately at the turn.

Yes indeed... Highly configurable. Currently working on 'now turn left/right' etc.

also changed..
'turn slightly' to 'bear'
'drive' to 'follow_main_road 4'

and changed some 'points of a mile' to fractions eg '3rd of a mile' etc.

Also working to create own voice files (ogg/wav) to include words/phrases not already in the folder, either to match or replace current voice sound.

Reports are that it all seems OK so far. Relying on a mate for testing.

I'd never had a look in all those zip files, only looked in the data.zip one. Does seem highly configurable. Must have a play with this when I get the chance.

I did notice in data.zip that TMC icons are in there, and there are other data files pertaining to TMC. Makes you wonder why we have to wait so long for iGO to get the features that obviously exist in Mio Map v3. Sad

Hi chaps..

Had the opportunity to test over the weekend.
If you want an announcement to turn just before the junction, this seems to work.
Edit your chosen commands.csv (yds, ft etc) Find the sections below and ADD the red lines...

(NB '~' should be a greater than sign)

"template generic",,,
,"50[near,minsilence=3]","In %dist %* %then","turn left"

,"10[near,minsilence=3]","%*","turn left"

"template turn",,,
,"50[!X,more,near]","in %dist turn %* %then1",
,"50[X=1,more,near]","in %dist turn %* %then1",
,"50[X~1,more,near]","take %X %* in %dist %then1",
,"10[!X,more,near]","turn %*",
,"10[X=1,more,near]","turn %*",
,"10[X~1,more,near]","turn %*",
.
.
,"50[!X,near,minsilence=3]","in %dist turn %* %then1","turn left"
,"50[X=1,near,minsilence=3]","take next %* %then1","turn left"
,"50[X~1,near,minsilence=3]","take %X %* in %dist %then1","turn left"

,"10[!X,near,minsilence=3]","turn %*","turn left"
,"10[X=1,near,minsilence=3]","turn %*","turn left"
,"10[X~1,near,minsilence=3]","turn %*","turn left"

I would like a 'now turn left' but I dont have a now.ogg yet. When I do, it will just need ammending like so...

,"10[X~1,near,minsilence=3]","now turn %*","now turn left"

The '10' is yards in my case although the announcement seems to be at about 15. Choose a value less than 10, and the announcement is too late.

Incidentally, I think the'X' is the number of potential turns before your actual turn.

Got my Mio C510 yesterday and after a few hours, I began to realise that this this really is the dog's dangly bits. I have (up until a couple of days ago) owned a Nuvi and before that a Navman 520 and before that TT5 PDA setup and I really do think that this thing is by far the best mix of all those units & systems.
I haven't actully taken it out anywhere yet (will do that today) but I have a feeling that I won't be disappointed!

The only thing that it appears not to be able to do (unlike the Nuvi) is to play MP3's and navigate at the same time. Not too worried about that as the kids have an Archos hooked into the car anyway.

If anyone wants more info etc, just let me know...

Deffo let us know how you get on with your new toy! Smile

I'm still holding off getting one for now - even the manual I've read for MioMap3 doesn't metion TMC anywhere..

Is it on any of the menus on your device?

Cheers,
paul.

Cant see any mention of TMC on the 510 at all!

As far as the unit goes, I've had a day's mucking about with it and here's a quick summing up:

1) I-Go on this machine (aka Miomap 3) is deeply impressive. It just does so much more than the competition and it does it better and quicker.

2) There appears to be no crazy routes at all! I've planned several routes on which the Nuvi & TT delivered mad routing - preferring single track roads over A roads, jumpingon and off Motorways etc, and the 510 has not selected any of these. In fact the routing appears to be balanced and sensible.

3) Selecting 'Lorry' will definitely generate a different route to 'car'. One time it told me that my destination was unreachable by lorry (v.narrow road) but it was fine by car!

4) POI's are OK. Not as fabulous as Mio make them out to be and not as widespread as Nuvi POI's. Still, POIHandler apparently support the C510 / C710 so there will be zillions of them soon!

5) The 510 is a bargain. All you need to do is buy a SD card (v. cheap at the moment) and stick the euro maps on it. Why would anyone buy the 710? ( there's some doubt about the 710's TMC being free in the UK)

6)The voices are OK but I'm sure there'll be better ones coming soon. Basically you get US male (OK ish) and UK male (sounds like someone on the Simpsons doing a upper clarse (!!) british accent!)

7) Love the configurability and ease of use. I think there are more clicks / taps needed to do the same job compared to Nuvi / TT but not much difference.

8) Display is very bright and clear. Non reflective surface works v. well but feels a little 'scratchy' on your nails.

9) Speed cams and route speed warnings are totally configurable and work REALLY well.

10) If I were Garmin or TT, I'd pack a fresh pair of underpants. This thing is a great bit of kit and quite frankly anyone who plays with this for an hour is going to want to ditch their Nuvis and TT's. I say this from experience. I showed it to 3 friends during the course of yesterday and two of the ordered one immediately and the third is putting his TT One in eBay today!

Be warned. Don't play with one unless you want to buy!!

Why do you only have turn left announcements? What happens when you need to turn right?
