Can anyone help. Last week I purchased the Brodit active (hardwire version) holder for the iPAQ2210 from HandNav.

I asked a local car audio/electrician to fit but as soon as the unit is connected it blows the fuse in the fuse box. He called me back to show me and as soon as 12V supply is connected, measurements indicate the cable is open/short circuit. The metal outer of the connected in the cradle is indicating 12V, not the inner? The green LED on the cable transformer is not lit. Tried a couple of times and each time the ignition is switched on, the fuse blows in the fuse box!!

Have I got a faulty unit - which he seems to think - if so would HandNav replace it, especially as I've ditched the packaging? Confused

Chetan - any advice from a HandNav expert? Can I arrange to return it for a replacement. I'll email HandNav this same problem.

Any advice would be gratefully received Crying or Very sad

Certainly sounds faulty, I don't think the metal outer shield part of the socket should have any voltage (AFAIK it's just a screen) at all regardless of whether the cradle has been wired incorrectly (I use the same mount).

When wired correctly and working you should see a Green LED on the transformer.

You're not having much luck are you what with the TTNav BT Cradle being u/s as well!

I would call or email Chetan, if the cradle is faulty then I'm sure he will replace it.

Thanks Darren, you're right I'm having rotten luck at the mo :x

I've emailed HandNav - had an instant response from Chetan and Brodit in Sweden as well. The unit is now on it's way back and being replaced. :D

Now, if only Tom Tom employed a similar level of customer service........! Rolling Eyes

On the subject of the TTNav BT Cradle, where did you buy it from as assuming it wasn't direct from TomTom I'd approach the dealer first for a replacement?

I got it from Mobile Data Direct. Their site states that faulty items over 28 days old but within warranty should be returned to manufacturer.

They may state that but the Sale of Goods Act clearly states that your warranty is with the retailer. I'd call them and remind them of this if they claim otherwise Evil or Very Mad

See this site http://www.monikie.org.uk/yourrights.htm for a summary fo your rights and the retailers responsibilities.

Oh, and a replacement Brodit active holder arrived in the post today - just 3 days after my first contact with them :D

Fantastic customer support. Thanks Chetan (HandNav) and Peter (Brodit). Thumbs Up

Darren, I was going to get a pro auto electrician to re-fit - but just how easy are they to wire into the car. Can I just tap into the ignition live 12V of the cigarette lighter socket? or does it need to go direct to the car fuse box?

Thanks.

Couldn't be easier, I simply used Scotch Locks (the small blue snap connectors available from any Auto-Electrical outlet e.g. Halfords) and tapped into the rear of the cigarette lighter socket. It's always good advice to insert an in-line fuse as well (I'm surprised that the mount does not come with one).

A lit green LED on the Brodit cable will verify correct termination before you plug in the 2210 Laughing

Great, thanks Darren. Will attempt it myself if it is as easy as you say. What rating of fuse would you recommend?

I'd go with a 2a fuse, 5a at the most. Use the glass type in-line fuses with a fuseholder. Insert the fuseholder into the positive power cable from the Brodit mount.
