Now i can post (thanks Dave :D ) has anyone tried this new BT reciever?

I have ordered one from spotlight but not sure if i have made the right decision!! Should i have gone for a CF or mouse type?

Can the Fortuna be hard wired so it is permantley on?

Are the connectivity problems with pocket pc 2003 that bad (asking for bt connection all the time)

Any advice, completely new, just spent £600 reddies and now having second thoughts.

D.

We have one due in soon. Probably won't reach us for another two weeks as it's sprouted wings and is flying in.

We will have a review, but I'm not too sure how soon. All of my reviews I am working on are going to be delayed a while because I've hurt my back landing on a crate (don't ask!). I'm only able to sit for about 15-20 mins before pain sets in. I will keep everyone posted.

I'm using the Fortuna Xtrack CF GPS receiver on an iPAQ 3630 and TTN2. I don't have anything with which to compare it as this is my first foray into GPS but the unit works very well. Since it's usually in the car I have it set to the STandard mode but I have tried it a couple of times hand-held in XT mode and found that the satellite lock was more robust; in fact I was able to obtain a lock indoors on that setting.

I suspect it draws more power than a single-chip unit but I have no knowledge about it - it does suck the battery on my aging iPAQ.

I bought this unit because I like the idea of using a hand-held GPS in foreign cities and the STandard mode loses the satellite lock very quickly in a built-up area. My only concern is avoiding being mugged, walking around with an obviously expensive bit of kit in places like Naples and Florence!
